Calvary Road reconstruction
Project: Calvary Road will be reconstructed to be a four-lane asphalt road between Lake Conroe Bay Road and I-45.
Update: This project is currently in the design phase, according to the Montgomery County Precinct 1 capital improvement projects dashboard.

  • Timeline: TBD
  • Cost: $1.01 million
  • Funding source: Montgomery County road bond funds

Hwy. 242 widening
Project: The Texas Department of Transportation is using the existing right-of-way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections.
Update: As of the most recent information released by TxDOT in late January, the project being carried out by Posillico Civil Inc. was 74% complete.
  • Timeline: Oct. 23, 2023-fourth quarter of 2026
  • Cost: $29.11 million
  • Funding sources: federal, state funds

Charles B. Stewart Library celebrating 20 years in March

The Charles B. Stewart Library is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The gist: The library was named after Dr. Charles Bellinger Stewart, the man credited with designing the Texas Flag, according to the Montgomery County Memorial Library System website.

Stay Tuned: The library will host a celebration March 20 with remarks from Commissioner Walker and activities such as face painting and a bouncy house.

Innovation Space with podcast room, 3D printers opens at Kevin Brady Library

The Montgomery County Memorial Library System on Feb. 19 marked the grand opening of the Innovation Space at the Kevin Brady Library in The Woodlands, a creative space including its Podcast Studio and an Innovation Lab with tools such as 3D printers.

What to expect: Part of the Innovate@MCMLS initiative, the space includes several 3D printers with different capacities, a 3D scanner, a large-format cutting machine, heat presses and a sublimation printer and other tools.

Quote of note: "We need [libraries] more than ever," said Kevin Brady, who retired as representative of Texas' 8th Congressional District in 2022. "These are learning centers ... to expand your world. ... It's not just for kids, it's for adults, for small-business people, for seniors. The county has done a beautiful job with this library."

GenerAction Jam Iftar
A film showcase, live poetry and spoken word will be the highlights of this event, which is hosted by Houston Muslim Filmmakers and IslamInSpanish. The showcase’s theme is “Reflection Before Reaction.” An Iftar dinner will follow the performances. This event is recommended for attendees 18 years and older. Advanced registration is required.

Where to see rising country music stars at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

With the 2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo quickly approaching, lineups for smaller stages, such as The Junction Stage and The Hideout, have recently been released. 

Located in different spots across the grounds, the stages offer smaller performances that vary in times and prices. 

The Garden Stage: Presented by Cotton Holdings, the stage hosts Texas country music performers during the World’s Champion Bar-B-Que Contest.

The Hideout: Known as the rodeo’s very own honky tonk, The Hideout features a spacious dance floor, bars and up-and-coming musicians.
