$907,500 contract awarded for Bastrop County Courthouse roof repairs

Bastrop County Commissioners Court approved a $907,500 contract with The Roof Co. Waco to repair the Bastrop County Courthouse’s aging roof—a project aimed at preserving the historic landmark for years to come.

The base bid was $825,000 with a 10% contingency, $82,500, for a total construction cost of $907,500. The estimated construction cost for the roofing work was projected to be $931,411, according to county documents.

Some background: A request for proposal committee was formed to review and score 11 vendor submissions for the roof repair project. It was composed of several Bastrop County staff and officials, including:

  • A representative from the auditor’s office
  • Audrey Loya, administrative assistant inventory specialist
  • Bastrop County Judge Gregory Klaus
  • Precinct 2 Commissioner Clara Beckett
  • Shawn Harris, director of general services
  • Tan-Li Sun, director of engineering and development

What else?: The roof repairs, which will be paid for with certificates of obligation, are expected to take 75 calendar days to complete, according to county documents.

Chuy’s to bring burritos, enchiladas and more to Bastrop on May 18

Chuy’s is bringing its Tex-Mex fare to Bastrop, with the Austin-based restaurant planning to open a new location in Sendero, a 75-acre mixed-use development, in mid-2026.

The details: Construction of the 5,426-square-foot site—estimated to cost approximately $1.8 million—began in late 2025, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

“We’re excited to bring Chuy’s to Bastrop and introduce guests to our one-of-a-kind take on Tex-Mex,” Hailey Fitch, a spokesperson for Chuy’s, said in an email to Community Impact. “We’ve received outstanding support from the city.”

What else? Chuy’s was founded in 1982 on Barton Springs Road in Austin and has more than 100 locations across 15 states. Orlando-based Darden Restaurants acquired the chain in 2024.

From a state office building to a gas station and more, here are five of the most expensive projects filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in the Austin metro this week.

1. Texas Facilities Commission Pflugerville State Office Building: A four-story, 100,000-square-foot site featuring a conferencing center, flexible work suites and offices will house two state agencies.

2. Crescent Bluff West sections nine and 10 in Georgetown: The subdivision is slated to grow larger with an additional 3,384,612 square feet of single-family residential space. 

3. Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Pflugerville: Seating for 300 people, restrooms, classrooms and offices are among the amenities planned for a one-story, 16,644-square-foot sanctuary.

4. Fuel Hub in San Marcos: Motorists traveling through San Marcos will have another place to fill their tanks once a 20,500-square-foot facility is constructed. 

5. Cash America Pawn in Austin: A pawn shop will be rebuilt on its existing site after the previous facility was damaged in a fire. It will total 5,156 square feet when complete.

Barton Springs Pool opening delayed to late March as crews complete maintenance

As swim season nears, the reopening of Barton Springs Pool has been delayed to complete a maintenance project.

The overview: The pool closed Feb. 23 for maintenance. It was originally slated to reopen March 13, but Austin officials announced March 21 as its new tentative reopening date. The weather could cause further delays in the pool's reopening.

The details: The delay is due to the Barton Springs Skimmer Project, according to a city news release. The project consists of removing aging infrastructure within the pool. During the removal, crews "encountered conditions" that will require more time and specialized equipment to safely complete work, according to the release.
