Plano commission approves new site plan for multifamily development in East Plano

Plano’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved a new concept plan for a multifamily development along Mapleshade Lane at a meeting June 15.

The gist: Plano Senior Planner in Development Review John Kim said the new plan waives a requirement for multifamily developments that are more than 5 acres to have quasi-public streets to separate the development into multiple blocks.

Dig deeper: The new development will have five levels and come with three courtyards, a park, a pool and a garage with six levels.

Port of Subs on Plano, Richardson border coming soon

The upcoming Port of Subs location in south east Plano, across the road from Methodist Richardson Hospital, is currently under construction.

The specifics: Construction started this month and is slated to finish in December, according to a project filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Port of Subs serves a variety of classic sub sandwiches and signature hot subs, including gourmet grilled cheese, meatball marinara, teriyaki chicken melt and more. Additional menu items include wraps, salads and breakfast sandwiches.

North Texas Fair & Rodeo announces 2026 music lineup

The music lineup for the 98th annual North Texas Fair & Rodeo was announced June 16. The 10-day event will take place Aug. 21-30.

The details: Country act Diamond Rio will be one of the headliners during the fair. The band has been active since 1984, and their hits include "Meet in the Middle" and "How Your Love Makes Me Feel."

Other headlining acts include country artist Kody West, who is from North Texas, and country musician Chris Cagle.

There will be two stages set up each night: one will have the headlining acts and the other stage will have live music starting at 6 p.m.

What else? The fair is hosted by the nonprofit North Texas State Fair Association at the fairgrounds on Carroll Boulevard in Denton. All generated revenue is funneled directly back into local youth scholarships, agricultural programs and community facilities, according to its website.

The event has professional and youth rodeos, livestock and agricultural shows, carnival rides, food and beverage vendors. Tickets are now available on its website.
