Round Rock subdivision approved for 72-acre expansion

Round Rock officials approved changes to a 71.88-acre property that will bring about 330 new-build homes to the area.

In a nutshell: KB Home, the developer of the Salerno subdivision, purchased the property and will use it to expand the neighborhood. Salerno is currently nearing completion of its original 1,200-home buildout.

How we got here: The 71.88-acre tract was annexed into the city in 2023, city officials said. A townhome development and later single-family homes were planned for the property. However, the original developer no longer found that project to be feasible.

What’s next? In its first phase of development, KB Home will build 181 single-family homes, with a second phase to bring 149 single-family homes, city documents show.

How Central Texas residents can spot and manage seasonal depression

Seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, is depression tied to changes in daylight, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.

Roxanne Dudley, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and licensed professional counselor with Integral Care’s Mobile Crisis Outreach Team, said fall’s added stress can worsen both anxiety and seasonal depression.

What residents should know: Everyone has bad days, she said. If symptoms last more than two or three weeks and take up multiple hours of the day, get help, Dudley said.

“That’s not just business as usual," she said.

Managing the impact: Dudley said to prioritize exercise. However, the usual 20-30 minutes a day can feel impossible with low energy or packed schedules, she said.

“I’m a big fan of exercise snacks,” she said. Five or 10 minutes twice a day adds up.

Whatever people try, Dudley recommended having self-compassion.

“It’s progress, right? Not perfection,” she said.

Reach out: Resources exist including Travis and Williamson counties respective mental health authorities: Integral Care and Bluebonnet Trails Community Services.
