Fort Bend ISD is slated to complete its long-range boundary planning this fall with secondary boundary changes.

The continuation comes following the March decision to close seven elementary schools due to stabilized enrollment patterns causing under- and over-utilization across the district, Community Impact reported.

What parents need to know: In May, the district officials began the process of secondary long-range boundary planning by reviewing feeder patterns to address overutilization at Stephen F. Austin, Lawrence E. Elkins and William B. Travis high schools.

Why it matters: Fort Bend ISD has seen slowing enrollment and is set to see its smallest kindergarten class size in nearly 20 years, Community Impact reported.
Officials said Fort Bend ISD saw consistent growth from 2015-16 through 2019-20, peaking with 4,840 kindergarten students, but enrollment declined during the 2020-21 school year.

While there was a brief recovery, kindergarten enrollment has trended downward, going from 4,714 students in 2022-23 to 4,187 students in 2025-26.

Singas Famous Pizza has opened its second Greater Houston area location in Riverstone, officials confirmed.

On the menu: The eatery serves handmade pizzas, salads and sandwiches crafted with fresh ingredients, according to its website. Other menu items include chicken wings, burgers and wraps as well as some desserts.

Also of note: The New York-based pizzeria opened its first Greater Houston location in Katy, per its website. Additional Greater Houston locations underway include Stafford and northwest Houston.

Texas State Technical College is set to launch a building construction program in Rosenberg this fall.

The program, which already has a strong presence on TSTC’s Harlingen, Marshall, New Braunfels, Sweetwater and Waco campuses, will feature a craftsman certification focusing on foundational construction skills, Community Impact previously reported.

Shawn McNeil, the program’s team lead, shared more about how he has watched the building construction program grow from an idea to launching the program in Fort Bend County.

How has it been creating the building construction program from the ground up?

It is exciting to know the students will have access to a learning environment that prepares them for success.

What factors have guided the design and setup of the labs?

Our goal was to create a lab that closely resembles an actual construction jobsite. Students will not just learn construction concepts, they will build projects, solve problems and collaborate the way they will in the field. Along the way, they will develop technical skills while learning the importance of safety, communication, teamwork and project management.

CenterPoint Energy officials announced a new initiative, which aims to provide a savings of up to $5 billion to all residential and small to medium businesses over the next decade in a Aug. 11 news release.

The big picture: The initiative stems from both the strengthening of requirements for large load energy users like data centers in the 89th Legislative Session and a project to add 14 gigawatts of energy load to CenterPoint Energy's service area.

Senate Bill 6 was authorized in the 89th Legislative Session and requires any development which expects to utilize over 75 megawatts of power at any point to pay higher overall energy costs.

In their words: "We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to generate historic levels of customer savings of more than $5 billion statewide by leveraging new investment in large projects to build a more affordable, reliable and resilient electric grid for millions of customers," CenterPoint Energy Chairman and CEO Jason Wells said.
