Plano City Council approved $1.4 million to go toward a new program for first responders to use drones at a meeting July 27.

The details: The new program will award Motorola Solutions Inc. with $1.44 million to implement and support the Plano Police Department’s Drone as First Responder, or DFR, program.

Public Input: Three residents spoke against the DFR program at the meeting with privacy concerns.

“Drones have been used to spy on protests, perfectly legal protests, and then afterwards people are coming home and finding law enforcement showing up at their doors,” resident Shirley Lawson said.

Officials said the drone could only operate for 20 minutes to an hour and would only be used when needed, rather than as surveillance.

A new Goodwill location is opening along Independence Parkway in Plano.

The details: The new Plano location is the first of its kind as a “small-format” store, according to a news release from the company. Goodwill offers secondhand and affordable items for residents to shop for.

The background: Goodwill Industries of Dallas is a non-profit organization that has operated in the Dallas area since 1923, according to the release.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines plans to open its largest Admirals Club lounge within Terminal C at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, according to a news release.

"We're investing in every stage of the premium travel journey at DFW, beginning the moment customers arrive at the airport," American’s Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden said in the news release.

New Terminal C Admirals Club
The new Admirals Club in Terminal C, which will be located near the terminal’s Skylink station, will be 37,000 square feet, per the news release.

The space will include a variety of seating options and workspaces.

Provisions by Admirals Club

The Provisions by Admirals Club will be a new grab-and-go kiosk option for travelers within Terminal F. The new terminal’s initial phase will include a 400,000-square-foot building and 15 gates, according to previous reporting.

Flagship check-in

A new check-in experience will open later this year near Gate D30. Eligible customers will be able to take advantage of the dedicated check-in area for flights.

3400 at Cityline renovation
A corporate office space at 3400 at Cityline, an office park, will undergo about $12 million in renovations, according to TDLR documents. The documents state the project will cover about 36,000 square feet and cost $12 million.
