After a temporary service suspension, CapMetro officials announced that its rentable electric-assist bike service Bikeshare will return in phases beginning Aug. 11.

The details: Bikeshare was suspended after a fire May 23 at CapMetro's operations facility that damaged the system's charging infrastructure. CapMetro pulled all bikes from docking stations and suspended service following the fire, saying it was conducting a thorough investigation before restoring service.

Now, nearly one-third of the Bikeshare fleet will be available for riding by Aug. 18 in priority areas with the highest customer demand, including the University of Texas. CapMetro installed several new electrified stations during this suspension, including two at the UT campus.

Officials also said that while all Bikeshare stations will reopen, there will be limited bike availability as the agency continues to rebuild the charging and battery infrastructure. Customers are encouraged to use the CapMetro Bikeshare app to find available bikes before going to a station.

Looking ahead: All Bikeshare service is expected to be fully restored by the end of 2026. 

The city is seeking public feedback on the potential renaming of Cesar Chavez Street following some City Council members' request for the change earlier this year.

The details: The city is asking residents whether the street should be renamed, and if so, what designation to use as a replacement. Council will take that input before making any final decisions. Three public meetings about the renaming process will be held Aug. 11-18, and the city has also launched a website with more information and a public survey about the process.

Any official renaming would require council approval and could cost Austin tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to complete. Austin must also coordinate with Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority and Texas Department of Transportation on potential signage replacements if a change moves forward.

Four days after rolling out its new hub-stop bus model, Austin ISD reversed course for middle schoolers.
What happened: Middle school students will use neighborhood-level bus stops instead of the centralized hubs announced last month. High schoolers are not affected and will still be picked up at hub locations like elementary schools, libraries and Capital Metro transit centers, according to previous reporting.
District officials said the about-face followed feedback from families who raised concerns after the model launched, including parents worried about young students navigating busy intersections to reach hub stops.
Why now: Officials said savings from the recent closure of Paredes Middle School, combined with other budget adjustments, freed up funding to cover the cost of restoring the neighborhood stops.
Updated middle school stops will roll out in AISD's Bus Stop Finder tool through Aug. 13, ahead of the first day of school Aug. 18.

Yummy Mommy Thai Cuisine is making its return after temporarily closing earlier this year. The Thai restaurant is set to open at its new location on Burnet Road next month, according to the team.

"At Yummy Mommy Thai Cuisine, every meal is crafted with authentic Thai flavors, fresh ingredients, and the warmth of home,” the Yummy Mommy team shared with Community Impact. 

The Thai restaurant is led by business partners Apisit Sangrugee, Pinsuda Sangrugee, Thidarat Pradidpoka and Pimnapat Chancharoen. 

On the menu: Patrons can find signature dishes like coconut curry, tom yum soup and a selection of stir fries. Other dishes include egg rolls, chicken dumplings, crab rangoon, drunken noodles and curries.

The background: Yummy Mommy was previously located within ATX Kitchens, a ghost kitchen on East Anderson Lane. Yummy Mommy announced its opening at the ghost kitchen on Aug. 31, and its closure nearly six months later.
