On Aug. 17, New Caney ISD’s board of trustees approved a balanced fiscal year 2026-27 budget, and a tax rate that could bring homeowners a smaller tax bill despite increased home values, district budget documents show.

At a glance: NCISD trustees unanimously approved the FY 2026-27 budget and tax rate, with trustee Creg Mixon absent during the vote, on Aug. 17.

NCISD’s approved FY 2026-27 general fund budget features about $243.87 million in both total revenue and total expenditures, according to FY 2026-27 budget documents. The largest expenditures in the budget include:

• $141.53 million for instruction, which includes employee wages
• $22.12 million for facility maintenance and operations
• $13.65 million for school leadership

St. Luke’s Health will add its parent company to its name in October as it expands its partnership with Baylor School of Medicine, officials announced in an Aug. 17 news release.

Read all about it: The name addition aims to unite and emphasize the shared values between St. Luke’s Health and CommonSpirit Health, a faith-based healthcare provider that serves as a parent company for over 2,300 care sites in the nation, according to the release. 

The name change also aims to bridge the local and national networks.

Zooming out: Over the past year, Baylor School of Medicine and St. Luke’s have also expanded their partnership to invite more Baylor specialists to join St. Luke’s. 

George Bush Intercontinental Airport officials celebrated an Aug. 7 opening of several new Farmer’s Fridge kiosks throughout the airport, according to a post on the airport’s Facebook page.

The details: Officials noted the grab-and-go offerings include fresh sandwiches, wraps, salads and other seasonal surprises, according to the post.

Officials noted four kiosks are currently installed near gates A9, A27, D17 and the airport’s Car Rental Facility.
