The city of Frisco is moving forward with discussion on updated plans for a new animal shelter. 

What to know: Through a public-private partnership with Wiggle Butt Academy, the city of Frisco is seeking to build a new animal facility. At a Sept. 1 board workshop, Frisco City Council discussed updates to the proposed facility's design and operating plans. 

Currently, animals picked up by Frisco Animal Services are transported to the Collin County Animal Shelter in McKinney, which is undergoing $5.7 million in renovations.

The Coppell Chess Club has opened a new branch in Frisco. 

What we know: Established in 2016, the Coppell Chess Club hosts weekly U.S. Chess Federation-rated tournaments, summer camps, free play and level-based group and private coaching. The Frisco Chess Club by CCC was created to help young chess players build confidence and reach their full potential, according to the organization website. 

Students pre-K through 12th grade and adults can register for group or private classes online.
