New spa proposed for Cedar Park along Parmer Lane

A new spa may be headed for Cedar Park, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The details: According to the filing, construction on the business, Body Lab Spa, was scheduled to begin in mid-January and it set to wrap up in mid-April. The project includes an interior finish out of a 1,490-square-foot building, costing an estimated $178,800.

Lakewood Park Splash Pad to recieve repairs

Leander will repair the Lakewood Park Splash Pad, which was damaged in the July 2025 floods, according to city documents.

The overview: “Flooding caused extensive damage to the splash pad surfacing at Lakewood Park, rendering the amenity unsafe and unusable for the community,” the documents state.

City Council approved the purchase of materials and installation services with Cunningham Recreation on March 5.

The repairs are expected to cost about $186,000. Most of that amount will be covered by an insurance claim. The city’s deductible of $25,000 will be partially covered by $18,750 in Federal Emergency Management Agency funds. The city did not provide a timeline for the repairs.

Austin prepares for spring festival season, reimagined SXSW

Austin leaders say the city is prepared for a slew of major events this spring, including a reimagined South by Southwest Conference & Festivals, and advised residents to be aware of impacts from traffic to public safety over the weeks ahead.

The details: Austin's Spring Festival Season kicks off this month with the official start of SXSW on March 12. The 40th edition of the festival will be spread across multiple hubs and venues in and around downtown, a change partially prompted by the multiyear redevelopment of the Austin Convention Center.

This year's spring season begins soon after a deadly mass shooting on West Sixth Street. Officials noted that incident left a different feeling for planners and attendees this month. Still, Austin's police, fire and emergency medical services departments remain ready to work and respond to the upcoming major events as usual.
