Construction on Round Rock Public Safety Training Center expansion begins

Construction on a $25 million expansion to the Round Rock Public Safety Training Center began in February. 

What you need to know: The contractor working on the expansion, Adolfson & Peterson Construction, announced the start of construction Feb. 3 in a news release. The release highlighted the expansion's scope, stating that it will add over 6,000 square feet to the facility where fire fighters, EMS staff and police officers train to serve the Round Rock community. 

The specifics: In addition to a new stand-alone classroom building, storage space for police and fire equipment and a high-speed driving track, a large skills pad and observation tower will be added to the existing facility.

Lululemon to open in Round Rock Premium Outlets this spring

A new location of Lululemon Athletica will open in the Round Rock Premium Outlets later this year, according to a representative of Simon Malls. 

About the business: The fitness brand carries a variety of technical athletic and athleisure clothing, shoes and accessories for men and women. Items offered are geared toward yoga, running and other athletic activities. 

What else?: The new store will be located near the Levis's Outlet and Torrid stores.

Samsung Austin Semiconductor marks 30 years off Parmer Lane

Samsung Austin Semiconductor celebrated its 30th anniversary Feb. 2, an official with the company confirmed.

Samsung came to Austin and began planning for its semiconductor manufacturing facility off Parmer Lane in 1996.

The history: Over the last 30 years, Samsung Austin Semiconductor has opened two fabrication units at its Austin campus. Construction on the first was finished in July 1997, followed by the second in 2007, according to a timeline on the company’s website.

The site has evolved throughout the years to produce more advanced semiconductor technology, the timeline shows.

In 2024, Samsung Austin Semiconductor contributed $19.8 billion in economic impact to the greater Central Texas area, according to data from the company. This includes operations of the Austin fabrication units and construction of the Taylor manufacturing facility.

What else?: Samsung Austin Semiconductor moved employees into the office building at its new Taylor campus in November.

The fabrication facility in Taylor will be operational by the end of 2026, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
