SCUCISD to update strategic plan for 2026-2030

Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD is in the process of updating its strategic plan for 2026-2030.

A strategic plan aims to guide district decision-making and budgeting, as well as clearly communicate district priorities to staff, parents, students and the wider community, Assistant Superintendent Kelly Kovacs said during a Sept. 25 SCUCISD board meeting.

Digging deeper: Kovacs said SCUCISD typically has four-year plans, with the current one ending at the end of the current school year.

The district's current strategic plan, created in 2022, includes a call to action, strategic goals, measures of success and an implementation plan. Its goals include providing information and resources for students to "confidently choose the courses they want to take and clubs they want to join," as well as promoting social opportunities for student and staff engagement.

Looking ahead: In October and November, district staff will work to confirm the framework for the new strategic plan and begin gathering feedback from stakeholders.

SafeWay Driving now open in Schertz

A new driving school is now open in Northeast San Antonio.

The overview: SafeWay Driving opened at the H-E-B in Schertz, next to the H-E-B Fuel gas pumps at 17460 I-35 N. on Sept. 24, according to a news release.

The driving program combines an online course with behind-the-wheel instruction from trained experts. Each training vehicle is equipped with a right-side driver trainer brake and accelerator, as well as dash cams and GPS tracking, the release states.

Notable quote: SafeWay Driving is operated by Schertz resident Bryan Nugent, who said he has witnessed the importance of driver education as the father to two teenagers.

"There’s nothing I wouldn’t give to ensure my children are as safe as possible on the roads. I love watching a student gain the confidence and skills needed to safely navigate our roads and the independence that comes with that,” Nugent said in the release.
