See where Humble ISD stands in student demographics, teacher pay

In the 2025-26 school year, Humble ISD was among the top public school districts in the Greater Houston area for some Texas Education Agency-tracked variables, including average teacher pay, according to data released March-June.

However, the school district also extended its four-year trend of enrollment decline after having previously spent years as a fast-growth district, TEA data shows.

By the numbers: Community Impact analyzed data from the TEA to learn trends among 30 Greater Houston-area public school districts. Data covered enrollment, student transfers, special education, bilingual students and more.

In 2025-26, HISD had:

  • 47,856 students

  • 4,372 teachers

  • 3,513 staff

  • 49 campuses

HISD's student enrollment dropped by about 0.5% from the 2021-22 school year to the 2025-26 school year, TEA data shows.

HISD saw a 2% student enrollment loss via student transfers in the 2025-26 school year. This rate was the same for neighboring New Caney ISD.

Out of 30 analyzed public school districts across the Greater Houston area, HISD had the 13th-highest average teacher pay for 2025-26.

Greater Houston officials prepare as Tropical Storm Edouard makes landfall

Greater Houston-area officials are monitoring conditions as a tropical system could bring heavy rainfall and the potential for flash flooding to the area through Sept. 2, per the National Weather Service.

What’s happening: The latest update from the National Weather Service states Tropical Storm Edouard is moving inland, and is expected to bring heavy rains and flash flooding to portions of the area on Sept. 2.

Gov. Greg Abbott at an Aug. 31 press conference said the forecast could include a storm surge of 2-4 feet in Chambers and Jefferson counties, as well as local rainfall getting as high as 10-15 inches, including in some areas getting 3-4 inches per hour.

While the rainfall is expected to affect the area’s rivers, it’s too early to tell if it will pose any imminent danger, Abbott said.

Harris County commissioners approve spay, neuter price increases

Spay and neuter costs have increased at least 50% at the county’s Pet Wellness Clinic.

At a glance: Harris County commissioners approved fee increases for the county Pet Wellness Clinic during its business court meeting Aug. 25. The increases will impact spay and neutering services, vaccinations, heartworm and flea prevention medicines and nail trimming, among others.

Spaying will increase 212% for dogs and 87% for cats, bringing starting costs to $125 and $75, respectively. Neutering will increase 150% for dogs and 50% for cats, bringing starting costs to $100 and $60, respectively.

Sorting out details: So far this year, the Pet Wellness Clinic has spayed and neutered 2,070 dogs and 2,301 cats, according to county data available from January to July. Last year, the clinic spayed and neutered 6,617 animals.
