Reining Strength Therapeutic Horsemanship offers equine-assisted services

After growing up going to Special Olympics events with her uncle David, who was one of the first athletes in the state of Texas, Heather Hernandez Sedillo said it was a natural fit for her family to help people with special needs.

When she was working at Texas Tech University, Sedillo said she was ready to return home to Fort Bend County so she started talking with her parents about starting Reining Strength Therapeutic Horsemanship, which came to fruition in 2014.

What they offer: The nonprofit provides therapeutic horsemanship programs for individuals ages 2 and up with conditions like anxiety, autism, Down syndrome, multiple sclerosis or post-traumatic stress disorder aimed at providing physical, psychological and social benefits. This program is also available to veterans at no cost.

Additionally, the nonprofit has an equine-assisted learning program, which primarily serves individuals with mental health needs.

Missouri City approves $1.86M purchase agreement for new golf carts

Quail Valley Golf Club will soon be receiving a new fleet of golf carts.

What’s happening: At a June 1 meeting, Missouri City City Council approved a $1.86 million contract agreement to purchase 135 Yamaha golf carts, 135 YamaTrack GPS monitoring systems and two beverage carts for the Quail Valley Golf Club. The contract also includes monthly GPS monitoring fees.

Quail Valley General Manager Sergio Salazar said this agreement is necessary due to the current fleet of 126 carts being out of warranty, experiencing maintenance costs near $1,000 per month and the current inventory not keeping up with expected play.

Stay tuned: Community Impact reached out to the Quail Valley Golf Club to inquire about the timeline for when the golf carts will be purchased, but did not receive the information by press time.
