When Yuri Paz and her husband Victor Benitez immigrated from San Pedro Limon, Mexico, to Georgetown over 20 years ago, the couple and their three young children sold homemade tortillas door to door.

Today, the family owns and operates a restaurant named after their parents’ hometown, expanding their business operations to accommodate a growing number of regular customers, they said.

What’s new: The original San Pedro Limon opened in 2012 at 905 N. Austin Ave., Georgetown, serving authentic Mexican dishes, such as chilaquiles and el pastor tacos inspired by the family’s heritage.

After more than a decade, the family decided to expand their business operations by opening a second location dedicated to to-go orders, catering preparation and housing the tortilla machine.

Why it matters: This expansion will help ensure the first location remains a sit-down restaurant where loyal patrons can receive high-quality service, the family said.

"We want to make sure that we're always able to have a seat for you when you come in," eldest son Victor Benitez said.

Teleo Title, a locally owned title company, opened in early January in Georgetown.

At a glance: The business offers title insurance for commercial and residential real estate transactions, both at the time of purchase and for refinancing.

The company's managing partners are Don Ness and Blake Teipel, and Jackie Rivera is the on-site branch manager and head of title and escrow operations.

The International Academies of Emergency Dispatch awarded the Williamson County Emergency Communications Center the designation of Emergency Medical Dispatch Accredited Center of Excellence, officials announced at a March 3 commissioners court meeting.

This award makes the department the first Tri-ACE, or three-time Accredited Center of Excellence, emergency communications center in Texas.

What it means: Williamson County Emergency Communications manages 911 and nonemergency calls, and dispatches critical care and specialized operations for law enforcement, fire and medical agencies. The department serves a growing population of 750,000 people and dispatches for about 28 agencies, officials said at the March 3 meeting.

The award adds to two others that the emergency communications center has received—for emergency police dispatch and emergency fire dispatch. These three designations make the center the first in Texas and 32nd in the world to achieve a Tri-ACE distinction.

How it works: As an accredited center of excellence in emergency medical dispatch, Williamson County Emergency Communications meets the academy’s highest level of standards, according to a county news release.

Over 2.3 million Democrats and nearly 2.2 million Republicans voted in the March 3 election, according to unofficial election results from the secretary of state. Totaling nearly 4.5 million voters, this is “the highest voter turnout for a primary in Texas history,” the secretary of state’s office said.

By the numbers: Nearly one-fourth of Texas’ 18.7 million registered voters participated in the primaries, shattering turnout rates from recent years. Less than one-fifth of registered voters cast ballots in the 2024 presidential and 2022 midterm primaries, state election records show.

Texas’ previous primary turnout record was set in 2008, when 4.2 million voters cast ballots in high-profile presidential primaries.

Zooming in: Election data shows the most people cast votes in the high-profile U.S. Senate races that topped the ticket, with the total numbers of votes steadily decreasing down the ballot in both primaries.

There is “some certainty” that voter enthusiasm will extend to the November midterm election, Republican data analyst Ross Hunt told Community Impact during early voting.
