McKinney council to consider 2 zoning cases at upcoming meeting

McKinney City Council will consider a zoning request for apartments in north McKinney at an upcoming meeting.

The setup: Council members are meeting for a work session and regular meeting March 17 at McKinney City Hall. The regular meeting agenda includes two zoning requests for consideration. The first is a multifamily zoning request for new apartments along CR 161.

McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the zoning request in February. If approved by council, more than 37 acres located along CR 161 in north McKinney would be zoned for multifamily uses. Council members will also consider annexation of the property alongside the zoning request.

The second is a request to rezone about 11 acres of land at 2906 Woodlawn Road for light industrial uses, according to a city document. McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission also recommended approval of the request in February.

Habitat Plants + Coffee expands downtown McKinney shop

Habitat Plants + Coffee in downtown McKinney has expanded, Owner Karina Velez said.

The gist: Velez said she leased the space next door which allowed the business to expand to about 3,500 square feet. It was a “dream expansion scenario” that allowed Habitat’s coffee bar and space to be expanded, Velez said.

The context: The business sells a variety of beverages including coffee, lattes, chai lattes and tea. Habitat also sells plants, plant accessories such as pots, apparel and more.

McKinney-based Pogue Construction names new CEO

McKinney-based Pogue Construction has named a new chief executive officer, according to a company news release.

The current situation: CEO Lou Morelli was selected to lead the firm after serving as president for the past four years, according to the news release. The announcement comes three months after Pogue Construction transitioned to an employee-owned structure in 2025.

During his time as president, Morelli has led expansion of Pogue Construction’s team and operations. Annual revenue increased from $570 million in 2022 to $1.5 billion in 2025, according to the news release. Former CEO Ben Pogue will retain his title as company chairman, a media representative confirmed.

The set up: Pogue Construction, founded in 1979, offers a variety of design, engineering and construction services for projects across Texas. The firm also has offices in Fort Worth and Houston.

TOCA Social offers soccer-themed ‘eatertainment’ center in Grandscape

TOCA Social, a European interactive soccer-themed entertainment destination, recently opened its first American location at Grandscape in The Colony.

The gist: The venue has 20 playing boxes, which are semi-private spaces where guests can play games, eat and drink. Each space has an interactive digital screen with five soccer ball-oriented game options.

Quote of note: “You take turns [going] on to the playing area. It’s kind of like bowling, you're competing against each other in a fun and lighthearted way,” TOCA Social President Alex Harman, said. “If you can propel a ball forward, you can play."

I-35W frontage roads, Plano bridge repairs: See updates on 5 road projects in Dallas-Fort Worth

Plano bridge repairs 
Project
: Repairs to 29 bridges in Plano will address the surface of the bridges, including the deck and railings, as well as possible damage to structures underneath the bridges from wear and erosion.
Update: Work on the first bridge to be repaired, Custer Road at Spring Creek, began March 2.

I-35W frontage roads expansion
Project:
The work includes constructing frontage roads on I-35W from 0.7 miles south of FM 407 to FM 2449, according to Texas Department of Transportation documents.
Update: TxDOT is working to acquire right of way for the project, move utilities and finalize design plans. The project is planning to go out to bid for construction in December 2027.
