Construction on a new Mambo Seafood location in Humble is expected to begin on Aug. 17 and wrap up by Dec. 1, per a July 28 TDLR filing. 

The details: Per the filing, the new restaurant will be located in an existing 5,900-square-foot building.

On the menu: Mambo Seafood has 14 locations across the Greater Houston area, and is known for its seafood and fast-casual concept. The eatery offers menu items including its famous Mambo rice, seafood boils, ceviche and fried seafood platters.

Humble city officials are proposing 4.5%-6% raises for most employees in the city’s proposed fiscal year 2026-27 budget, with some employees receiving raises as high as 11%.

The details: Humble City Council members reviewed the city’s proposed budget for FY 2026-27 during the council’s Aug. 6 special-called meeting.

City Manager Jason Stuebe said the city’s general fund is projected to contain roughly $43.4 million in expenditures based on roughly $44.6 million in new revenue.

A closer look: Stuebe said officials prioritized the city’s employees in their proposed budget.

Also of note: Stuebe noted the budget is based on a proposed tax rate of $0.245682 per $100 valuation, down from last year’s rate of $0.258171 per $100 valuation.

What’s next: The city will hold a public hearing before considering approving the FY 2026-27 budget at the council’s Sept. 10 meeting.

On Aug. 6, Lone Star College System’s board of trustees unanimously approved a balanced $577.5 million budget for fiscal year 2026-27, which features 2% raises for full- and part-time employees.

The gist: According to Aug. 7 meeting documents, the FY 2026-27 budget featured employee pay raises of:

• 2% increase for all full-time employees hired on or before March 31
• 2% bump for part-time hourly, non-instructional employees, except for student assistants and college work-study participants
• 2% more for adjunct faculty, who are paid per contact hour

• $18.5 million in additional funding from local taxes for FY 2026-27
• $7 million more state revenue for FY 2026-27
