Majority of ballots opposing Judson ISD tax rate proposition after early voting

After early voting in Bexar County, over 60% of ballots have been in opposition to a Judson ISD tax rate proposition.

The overview: A total of 3,389 votes, or 38.95%, are for JISD’s Proposition A, which would increase the district’s property tax rate by $0.045 per $100 valuation to $1.0796 per $100 valuation. A total of 5,311 votes, or 61.05%, are against the proposition.

The district’s board of trustees officially called for the tax rate election, or VATRE, on Aug. 18. If approved, the VATRE would bring in approximately $21 million of revenue, according to the district.

The district called for the VATRE to address its budget shortfall, which sits at $27.57 million as of Oct. 16, according to board documents.

Kara Latimer takes early lead in Cibolo Mayoral race

Guadalupe County has released early voting totals for the Cibolo mayoral race.

What you need to know: Kara Latimer and Terry Hinze are vying for the Cibolo mayoral seat in the Nov. 4 election.

Latimer leads with 1,565 votes, or 57.08% of the vote. Hinze has received 1,177 votes, or 42.92% of the vote, according to early voting election results.

The winning candidate will replace Mark Allen, who was elected in November 2022 after serving as the District 5 City Council member, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

SCUCISD tax rate election in close race after early voting results

A close race is ongoing to decide a tax rate election in Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD.

What’s happening: After early voting in Guadalupe and Bexar counties, SCUCISD’s Proposition A has 3,694 votes for a tax rate increase, or 51.35%, with 3,500 votes or 48.65% against the increase.

The district officially called for the tax rate election Aug. 18. If successful, the district’s tax rate will increase $0.06 per $100 valuation to $1.1969 per $100.

According to the district, the proposition would bring in approximately $16.2 million to be used on student programs, safety, staff raises and device replacement.

A total of 148,450 early votes were cast throughout Bexar County races, representing 11.54% of the county’s registered voters. In Guadalupe County, 11,574 ballots were cast across elections, representing 8.69% of registered voters.

Early results show close race for Schertz Mayor in Nov. 4 election

Guadalupe County has released early voting totals for the Schertz mayoral race.

What you need to know: There are two candidates, incumbent Ralph Gutierrez and Ralph Rodriguez, running for Schertz mayor.

According to unofficial early voting results from Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe counties, Gutierrez leads with 1,876 votes, or 50.70% of the vote. Rodriguez trails behind Gutierrez with 1,824, or 49.30% of the vote.

What else? Totals from ballots cast Nov. 4 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.

Gutierrez was reelected for a second term in 2023 after winning a run-off election against Cedric B. Edwards Sr., according to previous reporting by Community Impact. Gutierrez has served as the Schertz mayor since 2019.

Guadalupe County has released early voting totals for the Cibolo City Council, Place 2 race.

What you need to know: Incumbent Randy Roberts and candidate David Freimarck are vying for the Cibolo City Council, Place 2 seat in the Nov. 4 election.

According to unofficial early voting results, Roberts leads with 373 votes, or 54.93% of the vote. Freimarck has received 306 votes, or 45.07% of the vote.

Roberts was elected in 2022 after receiving 605 votes, or 52.93%, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

Patterson and Fishback lead race for Cibolo City Council Place 3 in early voting

Marissa-Ellen Patterson and Maria Fishback remain in the lead with 42% and 36.6% of votes respectively. Approximately 148,450, or 11.54% of Guadalupe County's 1,286,746 registered voters have cast a ballot with 4 of 38 Guadalupe County precincts reporting.

The City of Cibolo has three seats up for grabs, including the mayor and council member places 3 and 7.

What you need to know: The city has four candidates vying for the Cibolo City Council Place 3 position, looking to replace Robert Mahoney—who is running for the Place 7 position.

According to unofficial early voting results, Marissa-Ellen Patterson, Maria Fishback and Joe Armstrong lead with 304 votes, 267 votes and 93 votes, respectively. Charles Ruppert has 64 votes.

Summer-Marie Brown leads Cibolo City Council Place 7 early vote totals

Early vote totals are in, showing Summer-Marie Brown leading the polls for Cibolo City Council Place 7.

The breakdown: Four candidates ran for the seat, with Brown leading at 38.41% of votes. The second-highest vote-getter in early totals was Shari McDaniel with 24.04%. Robert Mahoney and Cody Hicks received 18.28% and 19.27% of early votes, respectively. With four candidates on the ballot, the election could move into a December runoff if no candidate received more than half the total votes.

Some background: In 2023, Cibolo officials approved the redistricting of City Council seats, shifting seven single-member districts to four single-member districts and three at-large seats. At-large seats serve the entire city rather than a select group of residents.

Place 7 is the final at-large seat to be filled under the new City Council composition.

Two candidates—incumbent Michelle Watson and challenge John D. Carbon—are vying for the Schertz City Council Place 2 position. 

According to unofficial early voting results, Watson is leading with 2,150 votes. Carbon has received 1,234 votes.

Watson was elected to office in 2023, after winning a runoff election against Tiffany M. Gibson, as previously reported by Community Impact.

What else? In early voting, there were 11,574 ballots cast countywide, which represents 8.69% of Guadalupe County's registered voters. In Bexar County, 148,450, or 11.54% of voters cast a ballot, and in Comal County, 15,624 or 11% of registered voters cast a ballot.

Totals from ballots cast Nov. 4 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.

Amy Thomas leads early vote totals for Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD Place 5 seat

Incumbent Amy Thomas leads early vote totals for Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD board of trustees Place 5, according to totals from Guadalupe and Bexar counties.

Breaking it down: Thomas ran against Aaron Matheny, pulling in 4,391, or 74.51%, of early votes. Matheny received 1,502, or 25.49% of early votes. Thomas told Community Impact her priority if reelected would be preparing students for post-graduation success and ensuring teaching staff have the tools needed to best serve students.

Early voting results show Bill Paschal leading SCUCISD Trustee Place 6 race

Two candidates—Albert Ramirez and Bill Paschal—are vying for the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, or SCUCISD, Place 6 seat. 

What you need to know: Paschal is currently in the lead with 3,633 votes, or 62.3% of the vote. Ramirez has received 2,195 votes, or 37.6% of the vote, according to early voting results. 

Ramirez previously ran for SCUCISD's Place 2 position in November 2023, filing under Alberto Ramirez, but lost to Margaret Carlin, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

What else? In early voting, there were 11,574 ballots cast in Guadalupe County, which represents 8.69% of Guadalupe County voters. In Bexar County, there were 148,450 ballots cast, which represents 11.54% of Bexar County voters.

Incumbent Belinda Evans leads Place 7 SCUCISD board of trustees race after early voting

After early voting totals in Guadalupe and Bexar counties, Belinda Evans is leading the polls for Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD’s Place 7 board of trustees race.

Current situation: Evans, the incumbent in the race, received 2,834 early votes, or 48.01%.

Challenging her for the board seat are Ciera Wilkerson and Jeffrey Kerlick. Wilkerson has received 1,656 votes or 28.05%, while Kerlick has received 1,413 votes or 23.94%.

A total of 148,450 early votes were cast throughout Bexar County races, representing 11.54% of the county’s registered voters.

In Guadalupe County, 11,574 ballots were cast across elections, representing 8.69% of registered voters.

Early voting shows Bexar County voters in favor of venue sales tax propositions

Bexar County has released early voting totals showing how voters cast ballots on whether to raise the county’s venue tax.

With 148,450 early voting ballots counted, 84,643 voters, or 57.47%, voted for Proposition A, while 62,647 voters, or 42.53%, voted against it. 78,184 voters, or 53.05%, voted for Proposition B, while 69,204 voters voted against.

Totals from ballots cast on Nov. 4 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.

What you need to know: Voters cast their ballot on whether or not to pass the Bexar County venue tax, which is divided into two propositions:

  • Proposition A: authorizes Bexar County to provide for the acquisition and financing of the Freeman Coliseum, Frost Bank Center and San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo facilities
  • Proposition B: authorizes Bexar County to plan, develop and finance a new multipurpose arena designed primarily as the home venue for the San Antonio Spurs basketball team
