Northwest ISD to consider limited open enrollment for 2026-27 school year

Northwest board members discussed plans to implement limited open enrollment in the next school year at a regular board meeting Dec. 8.

The gist: The district is looking to open the limited enrollment program for schools that have declining enrollment to avoid campus consolidations or school closures due to limited state funding, according to a district news release.

Proposed requirements for the enrollment for students outside the district include:

  • Passing grades for the two most recent school years
  • Review of tardies and absences for the two most recent school years
  • No significant disciplinary records up to district discretion
  • Living no more than 30 miles from the requested campus

The specifics: Recommended campuses for the program include Northwest High School; middle schools such as Chisholm Trail, Medlin and Tidwell; and elementary schools like Beck, Carter, Cox, Granger, Hughes, Lakeview, Nance, Peterson, Roanoke and Sendera Ranch.

Fresh Monkee to offer low-sugar, high-protein shakes in Keller

A new smoothie place, Fresh Monkee, is opening along Rufe Snow Drive in Keller next year.

The details The Keller location is expected to start interior renovations for the business in February, according a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. 

The expected completion date for the project is Aug. 26.

Fresh Monkee offers a wide range of naturally flavored protein shakes with a large portion of fiber and low sugar, according to its website.

Invicta selling watches in Fort Worth

Watch manufacturer Invicta is now open at Tanger Outlets Fort Worth.

The details: Invicta produces a variety of watches, including both mechanical and battery-powered models, such as divers' and chronograph watches, according to its website. The store also sells sunglasses, fragrances and watch cases.

The background: The store’s arrival was announced in a news release in November, according to previous reporting.

Jason's Deli celebrates 50th anniversary in 2026

Fast-casual eatery Jason's Deli is celebrating its 50th anniversary by honoring the fresh food, people and communities that have defined the restaurant, officials announced in a Dec. 30 news release.

The background: The deli was founded in 1976 by Joe Tortorice Jr. in Beaumont and has since branched out to 114 Texas locations and 235 delis nationwide in 27 states, per the release.

What's new: According to the release, the eatery is celebrating its anniversary by spotlighting new soups during the National Soup Month of January, while also rolling out new items, including the Deli-Bration Cookie—a sugar cookie topped with sprinkles—and returning others.

In their own words: “Our 50th anniversary is about staying true to what’s made Jason’s Deli special since day one—thoughtfully prepared dishes, diverse selections and genuine care for the people we serve,” Clare Wilson, vice president of culinary and R&D at Jason’s Deli, said in the release.
