GCP Paper USA Inc. nears completion on manufacturing plant in New Caney

GCP Paper USA Inc. officials recently held a “fill it in” concrete pour ceremony for the company’s new manufacturing facility in New Caney, according to a June 12 social media post from the East Montgomery County Improvement District. The event marked the last concrete pour of the project as the facility nears completion.

Learn more: GCP Paper manufactures and distributes paper products such as toilet paper, napkins, kitchen towels, facial napkins and special papers, as previously reported by Community Impact. The roughly 566,000-square-foot manufacturing facility is located within the East Montgomery County Industrial Park in New Caney, and is estimated to cost about $38.3 million to build.

What else? Around 250 jobs are expected to be needed, once the manufacturing facility is complete, as previously reported. Construction on the plant began in June 2025.

The company is also expected to open a new 450,000-square-foot warehouse in the industrial park, as previously reported. Construction on that project is expected to kick off in 2030.

RapidCare Emergency Room now serving patients in Kingwood, Porter

RapidCare Emergency Room officials celebrated a June 15 opening of their new location in Porter that will also serve the Kingwood area, officials confirmed June 15.

The details: In addition to providing urgent and emergency medical care for adult and pediatric patients, the facility will also offer medical care for:

  • Personal injuries
  • Work-related accidents
  • Auto accidents
  • Rehabilitation stabilization

Using state-of-the-art diagnostics and advanced treatments, officials noted RapidCare Emergency Room physicians prioritize minimal wait times, patient-centered care and customer service.

On the Border shutters all company-owned locations

Tex-Mex restaurant On the Border Mexican Grill and Cantina permanently closed all company-owned restaurants in mid-June, according to an emailed statement from OTB Hospitality.

The overview: The company made the decision through an “evaluation of the business,” according to the statement.

“On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has made the difficult decision to move forward with a significant transition in its restaurant operations, which [included] the closing of company-owned locations by end of day Friday, June 12, 2026,” the statement read. “This decision follows a thorough evaluation of the business and was not made lightly.”

The statement added that the franchised locations will remain open.

Some background: A news release from Houston-based Pappas Restaurants, the parent company of Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen and Pappasito’s Cantina, stated that the organization purchased On the Border May 1.

The restaurant offered nachos, quesadillas, fajitas and burritos, according to its menu.
