Tamina residents and officials with the city of Shenandoah and Montgomery County announced the pending completion of Phase 1 of the Tamina water and sanitary sewer connection project July 30. The project will provide the unincorporated community with public utilities from Shenandoah after a long history of water issues in the area.

Construction started in November 2023, and funding for the project came from $21 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds allocated by the county as well as $750,000 in ARPA money from Shenandoah to bring new water and sewer infrastructure to the area. The community is in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the city of Shenandoah, which managed the project.

Why it matters: The history of the Tamina community dates back to when it was established in 1871, founded by formerly enslaved people after the end of the Civil War. Some of the descendants of the people who established the community still live there, Shenandoah Mayor John Escoto said.

Happyland Playground officials said a soft opening was held at The Woodlands area's new location on July 29.

The details: The new indoor playground is designed as a safe, colorful space for kids ages 4-12, officials said. The company is a sister venue to Happyville, but it is designed for slightly older kids.

Services and attractions offered include:

• Large indoor play structures with colorful climbing towers, netted bridges, tunnels and elevated walkways

• Multiple slides including a white tube slide, four-lane slides and spiral staircase slide

• Trampolines, swings and a giant ball pit

Montgomery County commissioners could take the next steps toward a potential November bond election while continuing discussions over a new jail facility for the sheriff’s office during an Aug. 6 meeting.

What you need to know: Per meeting documents, commissioners will consider calling a bond election for Nov. 3. The proposed bond election would ask voters to consider funding a new justice center in downtown Conroe. If approved, the order would establish polling locations and procedures for early and Election Day voting.

The court is also expected to discuss potential funding scenarios for the bond election.

Also of note: The court will continue discussions surrounding the proposed Montgomery County jail facility. Commissioners could approve a resolution stating the county’s intent to finance expenses related to the project and discuss funding, architectural design and additional planning.

The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Alan B. Sadler Commissioners Court Building, 501 N. Thompson St., Ste. 402, Conroe.

A new laundry pickup and delivery service is now serving customers across the Greater Houston area. LaundryGrab opened in early 2026 and is aimed at helping busy residents who would rather spend time with their families than do laundry.

How it works: The delivery-only service allows customers to place orders online or via the company's app. According to a July 27 emailed statement, workers then collect the laundry from the residents' doorstep, wash and fold or dry clean the items and then deliver them back within a 24- to 48- hour timeframe. Pickup and delivery are free. Services include:

• Washing and folding

• Dry cleaning

• Cleaning household and event linens such as comforters, bedding, sheets, towels and tablecloths

• Same-day service for urgent orders

Starting rates for a wash and fold service are set at approximately $3.95 per pound. Dry cleaning is priced per garment, starting at $2.95 per item.
