Picasso exhibition in Round Rock brings art, education partnership

Round Rock is now home to original works by artist Pablo Picasso as well as a recreation of the house in Málaga, Spain, where he was born.

The overview: The Museo Casa Natal Picasso opens in the City Arts Center on Nov. 6. It features nearly two dozen pieces from the Spanish artist, along with works from his contemporaries and personal collection.

“To have a world-class art exhibition right downtown, in our City Arts Center … that's a really big deal,” Round Rock Chamber President Jordan Robinson said. “I think it’s going to really elevate global perceptions of the community that Round Rock is.”

The big picture: The exhibition is part of an effort by the Texas European Foundation, led by board members Francisco Guitard and Eduardo Galindo, to foster cultural exchange and education through partnerships with the city of Round Rock and Round Rock ISD.

Guitard said Round Rock will serve as a secondary headquarters for the collection associated with the Museo Casa Natal Picasso, the Málaga, Spain, museum dedicated to the artist’s birthplace.

Williamson County commissioners establish new rate structure for healthcare provider fund

The Williamson County Healthcare Provider Participation Program will now have two separate rates that contribute to a dedicated bank account, following approval from the Commissioners Court on Oct. 27.

What happened: Following negotiations between the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the assessment calculation was updated from the single-rate models.

Rather than the traditional one-rate structure, the program will now draw from a rate based on net patient revenue from inpatient hospital services and another from outpatient hospital services.

What it means: The healthcare program subsidizes the cost of treating patients without insurance or those covered by Medicaid through mandatory assessments collected from local private hospitals, such as Ascension Seton and Baylor Scott & White.

That money collected from private hospitals is then sent through state-administered programs and matched with federal funds, to be redistributed to the participating local hospitals through the local provider participation fund, or LPPF.
