Denton officials approve $1.84M in updates to Bowling Green Park

Bowling Green Park in northwest Denton will undergo renovations not to exceed $1.84 million following Denton City Council's accepted a bid to update the park at a Feb. 17 regular meeting.

City officials adopted the improvement plan, developed by engineering firm Pacheco Koch Consulting Engineers, in 2023.

Zooming in: Northstar Construction earned the bid out of 16 received proposals, according to city documents. Northstar Construction's bid was for nearly $1.76 million, and the city added on nearly $88,000, or 5%, in contingency costs.

The purpose of the renovations fall under the city's Strengthen Community and Quality of Life umbrella, according to city documents. The improvements include:

  • New pavilion
  • Updated bike racks
  • Raised planting beds
  • New pedestrian bridge
  • Additional trails
  • New parking lot
  • Accessibility improvements compliant with the Americans with Disability Act

Urban Air Adventure Park to bring indoor playgrounds, games to Denton

A new kids activity park in Denton will be opening in the fall off East McKinney Street and Loop 288.

What’s happening: Urban Air Adventure Park is in the construction phase of its first Denton location. Dev Ray, the owner of the facility, said opening an Urban Air in Denton made sense from a business perspective.

“Denton is one of the [fastest-growing] cities [in the area] and really doesn't have spaces like this here,” he said.

Urban Air is for kids ages 2-18 and will feature dedicated playground areas for younger kids as well as high-energy attractions for older youth and teens. The space can accommodate 400 guests at a time, Ray said.

Other features include:

  • Climbing walls
  • Obstacle courses
  • Trampolines
  • Event spaces

What else? The facility will have 10 private birthday party rooms, which are climate controlled, that can also be rented out for adult or corporate events, Ray said.

The overview: Dallas-Fort Worth residents can expect to see mixed-use developments continue to drive residential and commercial growth across the region, local real estate leaders say.

Community Impact Founder and CEO John Garrett sat down with local real estate experts for a panel discussion Feb. 17 for the company’s first InCIder Hour event in Dallas-Fort Worth.
