The Watershed welcomed customers starting Sept. 8, with hopes of creating a new neighborhood spot in Clarksville. Patrick Gartner, co-owner at The Watershed and founding partner of Verified Hospitality, opened the new business with partners Austin Berry and Austin Pfiester.

On the menu: The Watershed is home to Grisette, an all-day cafe with coffee, pastries, wine, beer and light bites. Patrons can find espresso-based drinks, teas, non-alcoholic canned beverages and indoor and outdoor seating. Wine offerings include bottles and glasses from natural wine producers; beer options feature a range of brands like Brasserie Fantome from Belgium to Oxbow from Maine.
Main course: For more substantial bites, visitors can head to Muy Yum, which is parked at The Watershed’s patio. The truck serves food from Claudia Willis Villegas, including boards, salads, sandwiches, bowls and light bites.
One more thing : The Watershed will soon host live music, including singer-songwriter acts. Artists who are interested in performing can submit their information to The Watershed online.

Five candidates are running to represent Austin's City Council District 9 in the upcoming election.

The details: The district, which covers Central Austin including downtown alongside portions of East and South Austin, is currently represented by Zo Qadri. He's serving his first term after being elected in a 2022 runoff, and he faces four challengers in this race: Rich Heyman, Katie Kam, Dave Thadani and Kai Huang.

Austin ISD is subject to potential state intervention after Burnet and Webb middle schools each received a fifth consecutive failing accountability rating, according to Texas Education Agency data released Aug. 14.

What's happening: State law requires the commissioner to either close a campus with five consecutive failing ratings or replace the district's elected board with a board of managers. Any closure or takeover would not happen immediately, and a decision could come as early as January.

What's next: If a board of managers is appointed, it would replace the district's nine elected trustees and the commissioner would appoint a superintendent. The district's ratings are not yet official, and the agency will finalize ratings by Dec. 11 after reviewing any appeals.
