Naturally Cafe changes ownership in New Braunfels

Artisanal sandwich cafe, Naturally Cafe, changed ownership on Oct. 20.

The details: Menesh Agnihotri, a seasoned restaurateur hailing from the U.K., will take the reins of Naturally Cafe from previous owners Mike and Destin Singleton.

Agnihotri plans to renovate its storefront, pending approval of a permit from the city of New Braunfels. He also plans on revitalizing the interior and adding new food options.

“Hospitality is all about wanting people to come and have a good time,” Agnihorti told Community Impact.

What they offer: Naturally Cafe sells sandwiches, fresh juices, smoothies and more.

Olive oil tasting room celebrates 10 years in New Braunfels

A locally owned specialty food shop in New Braunfels is celebrating a decade of serving the local area this winter.

What you need to know: The Gruene Olive Tasting Room at 1641 Hunter Road is owned by Jill Hall. Hall said the shop will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary Dec. 6.

What they offer: The Gruene Olive Tasting Room sells a wide selection of olive oils, vinegars and balsamic dressings, all of which can be tasted in-store for free. Flavors ranging from blood orange olive oil to espresso balsamic vinegar make up the spectrum of options on the shelf.

The store also offers various organic, internationally-sourced pastas, bread mixes and dipping sauces, along with gourmet chocolates and cooking spices.

Check out these new restaurants and bars opening across the San Antonio area.

Darkside Brick Oven Pizza Co. is in the process of constructing a new bar behind the restaurant at 25 Truss Drive in Boerne, just off of Hwy. 46.

Called Darkside After Dark, owner Michael Hawes told Community Impact he expects it to open sometime in November.

The restaurant, known for its '70s and '80s themed decor and Star Wars memorabilia, will add to its diverse array of film tributes with this new Predator-themed bar.

The first tenant of the Schertz Station development—a 257,000-square-foot retail and commercial space off of I-35 North and Cibolo Valley Drive—is now open for business.

Panera Bread opened at 18406 I-35 N., Ste. 700 on Oct. 20. The fast-casual restaurant serves sandwiches, soups and salads; along with drinks like signature teas and lemonades.

Schertz Station is developed by Merit Commercial Real Estate, a San Antonio-based investment and development company, and is expected to have a Smoothie King, Chipotle and Portillo's opening before the end of 2025.

San Antonio looks to improve resident, tourist experience on River Walk

On Oct.1, the San Antonio City Council received a briefing on the first strategic plan for River Walk improvements since 2008.

The gist: Presented by Shannon Miller, director of the Office of Historic Preservation, the new strategic plan's geographic scope includes the historic horseshoe area as well as the channel extending north into the museum reach and the turn basin by the River Center Mall. The plan may also include the northern and southern portions of the river.

Miller said the plan has a wide scope of focus to ensure that it enhances the experience of visitors and residents alike. It could include potential capital improvements and maintenance projects, business growth and ways to improve traffic and circulation.

Key focus areas include:

  • Infrastructure improvements
  • Signage updates
  • Potential ordinance changes
  • Wayfinding solutions
  • Accessibility enhancements
  • Technology integration
  • Ecological considerations
  • Public art
  • Landscaping

Looking ahead: The strategic plan is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of fiscal year 2026-27.
