The Muse Mantra School of Music & Arts held a ribbon cutting Sept. 29 for its second location, which opened Sept. 26 at 7827 Spring Cypress Rd. in Spring. The school opened its first location in The Woodlands in 2020.

The new Spring-Klein area location is currently enrolling students and offers one-on-one lessons for kids, teens and adults. Muse Mantra founder and CEO Tarab Ali said the school has about 60 students enrolled, with a capacity for about 600 weekly. The facility features 10 classrooms, a music production room and a room for group lessons.

The school will offer one-on-one lessons in:

• Piano

• Voice

• Guitar

• Drums

The Harris County Clerk’s Office is rolling out a new app, Harris Votes, to help voters access election information and track results. Although the app is already available for iPhone and Android users to download, it will officially launch Oct. 1 ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.

The app is available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese. Using the app, voters will be able to:

• Find voting centers

• View a personalized sample ballot

• See election dates and receive reminders

• Check their voter registration status

• Follow live election results

• View frequently asked questions

Greater Houston is hosting several events this October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. These events include:

• Light it up Pink on Oct. 1 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Market Street in The Woodlands, featuring a photo opportunity, a pink tote bag and a light-up baton.

• Pour for Pink on Oct. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Sonoma Wine & Cheese in Katy, featuring a wine and cheese tasting and a mini market.

• In the Pink of Health Luncheon on Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott to raise money for cancer prevention, education and outreach.

• Annual Breast Cancer Walkathon on Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. at Elizabeth Kaiser Meyer Park in Spring.

The Harris County Emergency Services District No. 11 board of commissioners unanimously voted Sept. 22 to advance its proposed budget and tax rate for final approval. The proposed tax rate of $0.0391 per $100 of home value is equivalent to $124.05 annually for the average household. This rate is based on a median-valued homestead cost of $317,484.

Key details of the proposed tax rate increase include:

• The increase is estimated to add $2.74 to the average homeowner's property tax bill compared with the previous year.

• The proposed rate sits at the voter-approval rate, which is the highest rate the district can levy without sending the increase to a vote on the November ballot.

• The board has scheduled a public hearing for the proposed budget and tax rate during its Oct. 27 meeting.

• The upcoming fiscal year for ESD 11 begins Jan. 1, 2027.
