Georgetown Customer Service Center to open as part of SU 560 in 2028

The Georgetown Customer Service Center will open in the first phase of Southwestern University’s 560-acre mixed-use development in 2028, following City Council approval of the development partnership June 9.

About the project: SU 560 encompasses the university-owned land located east of the campus and north of University Avenue, and will feature a mix of employment, residential, retail and hospitality spaces designed to complement the university and broader community.

The initial 67-acre Phase 1 will include the new Georgetown facility, which will consolidate 13 city departments with over 250 employees, City Manager David Morgan said. Residents will find customer-facing services in the three-story, 75,000-square-foot facility.

Remember this? At full build-out, SU 560 will include 110,000 square feet of office and research space, 45,000 square feet of retail, 150 multifamily homes, a 110,000-square-foot hotel and conference center, a 38,000-square-foot entertainment venue, and 35 acres of parks and open space, according to a university news release.

'A club that you don't know about': Nonprofits and hospitals address growing NICU demands in Central Texas

Over the past decade, neonatal intensive care unit expansions across Central Texas have widened access to specialized care for families in Northwest Austin and Williamson County. As the region continues to grow, hospitals and nonprofits are expanding services for parents navigating a NICU stay.

By the numbers: NICU admissions have risen nationwide, and Texas is no exception. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 9.7% of infants in Texas were admitted to a NICU in 2023, part of a larger upward trend between 2016 to 2023.

Of the state’s 24 Level IV NICUs—the highest level of neonatal care—Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas and St. David’s Medical Center are the only two such facilities located in the Austin area.

While local birth rates have surged, nonprofits supporting NICU families have noticed the growth as well. According to Kristin Coulter, CEO of the Ronald McDonald House Central Texas, the organization has had a waitlist for over six years.
