League City will remove all Flock Safety automated license plate reader cameras if voters in November say they do not want the city to continue using them.
In August, City Council voted to put the question of whether the city uses Flock cameras on the Nov. 3 ballot, in a non-binding special election, meaning, at the time, the city still retained the authority to determine policy, regardless of the outcome.
The details: League City City Council voted unanimously at its Oct. 13 meeting to direct removal of the city’s 55 cameras if voters decide they do not want them.
What residents should know: LCPD officials said the cameras have assisted in over 300 criminal investigations, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
Quote of note: “Let me preface this by saying, I support the cameras,” council member Andy Mann said at the meeting. “Having said that, if the citizens don’t want them, we are going to rip them out of the ground.”
