Q&A: Meet the 2 candidates vying for Missouri City City Council At-Large Position 1

Shad Bogany will challenge incumbent Sonya Brown-Marshall for Missouri City City Council’s At-Large Position 1 seat in the upcoming Nov. 4 election.

Bogany is a real estate broker and seasoned radio show host, while Brown-Marshall is a business executive, commercial real estate broker and licensed Realtor.

Going forward: The election will take place Nov. 4 with early voting running from Oct. 20-31, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website. The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 6.

Bernardo Pitel Jiu Jitsu celebrates 1-year of world-class training in Missouri City

Bernardo Pitel Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a training facility offering authentic instruction under the guidance of world-renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion Bernardo Pitel, is celebrating its first year of business in Missouri City.

The gist: According to its website, the academy offers classes tailored for both beginners and advanced students, with adult programs including:

  • Gi classes, which utilize the traditional uniform and focus on techniques such as grips, positional control and submissions
  • NoGi classes, which are ideal for those interested in mixed martial arts, self-defense or refining their grappling skills in a faster-paced environment

Meanwhile, the Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program matches children ages 3 to 17 by age, size and experience to ensure a safe and encouraging environment.

The celebration: The academy will celebrate its 1-year anniversary from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 18, beginning with belt promotions from 10-11 a.m., followed by kids' activities and live rolls until 1 p.m.

Target launches first-of-its-kind accessible self-checkout for visually impaired individuals

According to a Sept. 26 press release, Target has launched a first-of-its-kind accessible self-checkout experience designed for guests with disabilities, including those who are blind or have low vision.

The self-checkouts will roll out nationwide beginning this holiday season and in early 2026 as part of Target's ongoing checkout improvements, according to the release.

What to expect: Per the release, the innovation is a guest-first design that primarily supports people who are visually impaired while supporting those with motor disabilities.

The technology works with Target’s existing self-checkout system and includes:

  • Braille and high-contrast button icons
  • A headphone jack with adjustable volume controls
  • Physical navigation buttons and a dedicated information key

Quote of note: "Target's new accessible self-checkout experience is unique not only because it is a first in the industry, but because it was designed through collaboration with the blind, incorporating our technical expertise and lived experience," Mark Riccobono, president of the National Federation of the Blind, said via news release.

Mia’s Table, a southern comfort food restaurant, is slated to come to the Market at Town Center in Sugar Land, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations filing.


The casual family-friendly eatery serves a variety of burgers, tacos, sandwiches, salads and seafood options, according to its website.


The menu lineup also features chicken fried steak, meatloaf and chicken strips, as well as milkshakes.

Sake Bon officials said the Japanese eatery has plans to expand with a location in Kingwood by early October.


According to the website, Sake Bon offers all-you-can-eat Japanese cuisine including soups, sushi, noodles, rice and hibachi. Appetizers offered range from edamame to spring rolls and fried calamari.
