Plano ISD to launch Electrical Engineering Academy

Plano ISD will launch a new Electrical Engineering Academy in partnership with East Texas A&M University, according to a news release from the district.

The district’s board of trustees approved the partnership on Sept. 25 to begin in the 2026-27 school year.

What you need to know: Students will begin the four-year academy at Jasper High School and complete it at Plano West Senior High School, where they can earn high school and college credit simultaneously, starting in 11th grade.

The program will offer students hands-on learning and career readiness opportunities in engineering, as well as the ability to complete the Texas College Core through East Texas A&M dual credit courses. These credit hours will be transferable to Texas public universities, according to the release.

Voodoo Brewing Co. to close downtown Plano location

Voodoo Brewing Co. closed its Plano location Sept. 30.

The details: Voodoo offered stouts, IPAs and craft cocktails as well as burgers, wings and other casual eats. The closure was announced in a social media post, and an employee confirmed Sept. 30 would be the location’s final day of operation. Voodoo Brewing Co. recently opened its Prosper location Aug. 23.

H-E-B president to retire, chief operating officer to step into the role

A San Antonio-based grocery chain with a stronghold across Texas is now facing a change in leadership.

In case you missed it: H-E-B President Craig Boyan announced his intention to step down from his role, effective in January 2026.

He’ll subsequently retire at the end of next year, according to a Sept. 30 news release from the company.

As a result, current H-E-B Chief Operating Officer Roxanne Orsak will take his place.

Zooming in: Orsak started her career at H-E-B in 1988 as a store manager, rising through the ranks to become the COO in 2022, according to the release.

“I am honored to continue to shape the future of this great company with integrity, heart and a relentless pursuit of excellence,” Orsak said.

The context: The leadership change comes in tandem with H-E-B’s continued expansion in Texas.

New storefronts in San Antonio, Georgetown, Prosper and more have opened within the last two months, as previously reported by Community Impact.
