Celina officials ask state legislators to fund water infrastructure, maintain local authority in 2027

As the Texas Legislature gears up for its 2027 regular session, Celina officials are hoping to shape policy that affects the city and its residents.

What happened: Celina City Council discussed the city’s legislative priorities at a Sept. 8 meeting and approved them on Oct. 13.

The gist: City officials emphasized four topics in their legislative agenda:

  • Water

  • Land use and growth management

  • Sustainable local government finance

  • Infrastructure funding and debt

What they're saying: “Our representation in Austin talks a big game … but they seem to forget that we put them in Austin, and we’re big enough and smart enough to take care of ourselves,” Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Andy Hopkins said in September. “All politics is local, and this is as local as you get.”

Cricketeers learn, hone skills at All Stars Cricket Arena in Frisco

When Frisco resident Adi Kattari built a cricket batting cage in his backyard in 2015, he didn’t foresee opening a freestanding indoor cricket training facility complete with a full-size indoor cricket field, batting lanes, weight area and pro shop—but that’s exactly what happened.

Quote of note:

“[We] were living opposite Independence High School, and I had built a batting cage in my backyard for my son to practice cricket,” Kattari said. “Because I lived right next to the school, I had five to 10 people daily ask to see it the first year. There are more South Asians in that region, which may have increased the curiosity. Then coaches started asking to use the cage.”

Going forward: In 2026, Kattari opened a second All Stars Cricket Arena in Kansas and another cricket arena, Yash Lewisville Cricket Arena,  in Lewisville. There are plans to open a fourth location, in an undisclosed city, before the year end, said Kattari.
