Fort Bend ISD approved a turnaround plan for Hightower High School and improvement plans for 15 schools to improve academic results.
The overview: The district unanimously approved one turnaround plan, which is the more intense intervention plan, for Hightower High School to improve its academic performance through improved lessons, targeted support and post-graduation preparation.
The state requires districts to create turnaround plans for campuses after two consecutive years of unacceptable accountability ratings, which are letter grades the state gives campuses to evaluate their overall academic performance, per the Texas Education Agency website.
This year, Hightower received its fourth consecutive D, which the agency qualifies as unacceptable, according to the agency’s website.
Officials also approved a local improvement plan for Crockett, Hodges Bend and Sugar Land middle schools, along with 11 elementary schools.
What else: Board members approved a targeted improvement plan for Willowridge High School, which went from an F to a C this year.
Looking ahead: The campus must submit the plan to the state for approval by Nov. 20.
