Roanoke-based Metroport Meals on Wheels brings warm food to individuals across Tarrant, Denton counties

Metroport Meals on Wheels offers a chance for individuals in need of food to connect with the volunteers who bring them warm meals.

“The personal connection between the volunteers and the participants is huge,” Executive Director Mary King said. “The volunteers love it [and] the participants look forward to it.”

The overview:
Meals are dropped off to homes of individuals who cannot cook for themselves. Metroport Meals on Wheels also delivers meals to local senior living facilities, King said.

"I really choose to focus on that we [are] able to bring joy at a time when there might not [be] much joy,” she said.

Metroport Meals on Wheels is located off US 377 in Roanoke and services people in northeast Tarrant County, south Denton County and south Wise County, King said. Meals come from restaurant and grocery store partners such as Central Market in Southlake, Snooty Pig Cafe in Argyle and Dove Creek Cafe in Roanoke.

Highland Village City Council tables change to drone zoning regulations

Highland Village City Council tabled an amendment to a city zoning ordinance that would have allowed Walmart and drone delivery service Wing to provide drone deliveries at a Jan. 12 council meeting.

What you need to know: Wing representatives sought approval of a site plan that would allow the company to house 18 drones at a Walmart location at 3060 Justin Road. Wing has partnered with Walmart at about 50 locations to provide done deliveries, Wing representative Josh Bucci said.

The site plan includes a drone staging area, separated from where the drones are stored, within 250 feet of a residential community, in violation of the proposed ordinance change, which requires drone delivery hubs and staging areas to be zoned more than 250 away from residential areas.
