McKinney council to consider zoning for potential Texas Health hospital

McKinney City Council members are scheduled to consider and potentially vote in December on new zoning for a five-story hospital along North Central Expressway.

What’s happening: City Council is scheduled to meet Dec. 2 for a work session and regular meeting. The regular meeting agenda includes consideration of a zoning case for construction of a new hospital, dubbed Texas Health McKinney in a letter of intent submitted to the city.

Looking back: McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the zoning request in November. If approved by council, the subject property would be zoned for commercial uses with a maximum building height of 210 feet, according to city documents.

The details: A conceptual stacking plan included in the zoning request shows a first phase with a five-story hospital featuring an emergency department, surgery space, women’s services floor and 60 inpatient beds. Further phases of construction could expand the hospital to 12 floors with 300 inpatient beds, as well as two adjacent medical office buildings, according to city documents.
