Willis ISD set to review long-range planning timeline, host budget workshop June 8

On June 8, the Willis ISD board of trustees will review a budget workshop and a long-range planning committee timeline, according to meeting documents. The purpose of the long-range planning timeline is to provide a layout for future organizational needs, which may include bond and infrastructure updates. 

The details: As previously reported, the district’s last three bond propositions did not succeed at the November election. These propositions included:

  • Proposition A: $27 million for a student activity center
  • Proposition B: $68.8 million for an athletic complex and stadium with a community room
  • Proposition C: $19.6 million for an aquatic center

What else: Also on the agenda, WISD Chief Financial Officer Garrett Matej will present multiple reports, including a budget workshop, financial, investment and insurance reports. At the June 10 regular meeting, Matej reported that various operating expenses around the district are projected to rise for the upcoming school year. Bob Eaton, the WISD chief of construction and operations, will also present to the board updates to various capital projects in the district.

PREVIEW: Montgomery County to discuss property tax exemptions, road bond update July 9

Montgomery County commissioners are set to discuss 2026 property tax exemptions, the county’s 2025 road bond program and design services for a Montgomery County Justice Center during a July 9 meeting.

What you need to know: According to the agenda packet, commissioners will consider taking action on county ad valorem exemptions for tax year 2026. The item includes homestead, 65-and-older, and disabled exemptions.
The court is also expected to receive the 2025 road bond program financial report. Montgomery County voters approved the $480 million road bond in May 2025 to fund mobility projects across the county.

Also of note: Commissioners will also consider awarding architectural design services for the Montgomery County Justice Center, with a contract to follow.

The court could also approve the creation of new district courts, a county court at law and a probate court.

IAH to receive over $62.26M for runway rehab

George Bush Intercontinental Airport will receive more than $62.26 million in Federal Aviation Administration grants to reconstruct runways, according to a July 2 news release from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The details: The IAH investment is part of a $1.776 billion total investment in U.S. airports by the Federal Aviation Administration intended to support runway rehabilitations, family-friendly enhancements and safety upgrades.
