A new piece of public art should be completed next year outside of the historic Bushong cabin in Grapevine.

Council approved a contract worth $103,700 with sculptor John Rule to create a bronze sculpture of “Jeff the Horse” during the July 21 meeting. 

The details: The sculpture will commemorate a horse named Jeff who belonged to George E. Bushong, an early settler of Grapevine, said Paul W. McCallum, executive director of Grapevine’s Convention and Visitors Bureau. The sculpture will be life-sized and sturdy enough to support visitors sitting in the saddle, he added.

McCallum said the sculpture will be placed outside the Bushong log cabin, which was originally built in 1858, in Liberty Park Plaza along Main Street.

Zooming in: Funding for the sculpture comes from the city’s special revenue fund for public art, according to city documents. Revenue for the fund is collected from cellphone companies renting space on water towers to provide cell service.

What’s next: The sculpture is expected to be completed next spring, McCallum said.

As part of a rebrand from Fast Home Offer to REI Leads, a Grapevine-based company is also expanding its platform, according to a news release. 

The overview: The company rebranded July 15 and continues to offer its services that help connect residential property investors with home sellers across the United States and Canada. The company will operate the REI Leads brand to connect with investors, while Fast Home Offer will work exclusively with home sellers, said Jeremy Brandt, founder and CEO of REI Leads.

The platform allows a homeowner looking for a cash buyer to connect with a local investor, Brandt said.

Quote of note: “Over two decades ago, I founded Fast Home Offer to provide investors a simple way to connect with sellers without complex marketing systems or high management overhead,” Brandt said in the news release. 

One more thing: Brandt founded Fast Home Offer in 2003 and the company’s office is located in Grapevine.
