CR 255 open for Liberty Hill, Georgetown drivers

Williamson County completed its CR 255 road project Aug. 24, opening a new two-lane road between CR 254 and CR 289. Officials celebrated the road opening with a ribbon-cutting.

The details: The 3-mile road project includes a direct connection to Ronald Reagan Boulevard and removes sharp turns, according to a county news release.

“This is a regional road for us,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey said. “It’s on our long range transportation plan, and eventually it will go further north.”

With a $20.8 million price tag, the project was funded through Williamson County’s Road and Bridge funds.

What’s next: Commissioners plan to vote on a name change for the road sometime in September, Covey said. The proposed name is Tucker Parkway, she said.

The Tucker family moved to WIlliamson County in the 1850s and bought over 1,000 acres of land in the 1870s.

SH 195 exit ramp now open at Ronald Reagan Boulevard

Williamson County and the Texas Department of Transportation officials celebrated the opening of a northbound exit ramp at SH 195 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard on Aug. 24 with a ribbon-cutting.

About the project: Led by TxDOT, the right lane exit ramp provides direct access to Ronald Reagan from northbound SH 195. Previously, drivers had to use a turn lane and cross over southbound lanes, according to a county news release.

The project cost $3.6 million and was funded by the voter-approved 2019 WilCo Road Bond.

What’s next: The county and TxDOT plan to construct three additional ramps to connect SH 195 to Ronald Reagan Boulevard, anticipated to undergo construction in late 2027, according to the release.

New Elks Lodge to serve North Austin area

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks established a new chapter in North Austin this month, holding a ceremony to secure the first new lodge in Central Texas in over a decade.

The overview: The North Austin Elks Lodge No. 2894, based out of Round Rock, is now developing new programs focused on support for veterans, youth activities and partnerships with local nonprofit organizations, according to a press release.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is a fraternal organization with hundreds of thousands of members across the country, with a network of nearly 2,000 lodges. Chapters, which also act as social clubs, raise funds to provide scholarships, host youth sports events, connect veterans with services, provide disaster relief and more.

Early, Wilson to face off for Texas House District 20 covering Williamson County

Two candidates are facing off in the Nov. 3 election for Texas House District 20, which covers much of northwest Williamson County, including most of Cedar Park, Georgetown, Leander and Liberty Hill. Incumbent state Rep. Terry Wilson, R-Georgetown, is facing off against Democratic nominee Matthias Early for Texas House District 20.

What to bring to the polls: Voters should bring a photo ID with them to the polls. According to the Texas Secretary of State's office, acceptable forms of photo ID include:

Texas driver's license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Texas election identification certificate issued by DPS
Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
Texas handgun license issued by DPS
U.S. Military identification card containing the person’s photograph
U.S. citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
U.S. passport (book or card)

The last day to register to vote is Oct. 5, and early voting begins Oct. 19.
