Richardson plans street reconstruction, repair for FY 2026-27

Richardson city staff presented plans for street reconstruction and repair around the city at the July 13 City Council meeting. Assistant City Manager Charles Goff said the city is planning concrete panel replacement and asphalt overlay projects in fiscal year 2026-27, and also provided updates on ongoing construction projects.

The overview: The recently approved 2026 bond program will fund the full reconstruction of the poorest streets and alleys, as well as additional concrete panel replacement for some fair streets.

The approach: In FY 2026-27, Goff said the city is planning panel replacement on neighborhood streets in areas in south and east Richardson as well as a group of commercial streets around International Parkway. The city will also continue asphalt overlay on Coit Road, extending the rehabilitation to Melrose Drive. Sections of Westwood Drive, Lockwood Drive and Lindale Lane are also set to receive asphalt overlay next year, Goff said.

Carrollton-based Hebron Gardens is set to relocate to Richardson and merge with Plants & Planters by Secret Gardens later this summer, a store representative confirmed.

The details: Hebron Gardens offers a variety of plants, trees and shrubs, as well as fertilizers, pottery, soils and garden tools.

Maman Coffee, Bakery, Kitchen to offer pastries, sandwiches in Plano

A new bakery and kitchen, Maman, will be opening its third location in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Plano.

Maman is a New York-based restaurant that offers breakfast and lunch options like overnight oats, omelette, salads, soups and sandwiches. Some of its drinks include seasonal lattes, tea, lemonade and fizz drinks. Maman also offers traditional coffee options like espresso shots, americanos and a cortado.

Maman will be located at the former Main Street Bistro and Bakery. Maman’s other two locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are in Dallas.

Soul food restaurant Trucker’s Cafe to reopen Richardson location

Trucker’s Cafe is set to reopen its Richardson location on Aug. 1, owner Paulette Johnson said.

Trucker’s Cafe is a soul food restaurant serving salads, burgers, fish, chicken, meatloaf and more. The restaurant, which first opened in Richardson in 2020, has been closed for a year due to a fire, Johnson said.

Johnson said the grand opening will offer a $6.99 special with meat and sides.

A new burger place, Patty Lou’s Smashburgers, opened in mid-July in Plano.

The history: The latest concept from Urban Family is themed after Patty Lou and the Texas Sweethearts, an all-female western swing group that traveled through US 66 in the late 40s and 50s.

Bonnie Shea is the co-owner and daughter of Patty Lou. She said their latest restaurant is a tribute for her mom.

What they offer: Bonnie's husband and co-owner Nathan Shea said Patty Lou offers burgers made with Texas wagyu from their ranch.
