The city of Lakeway issued in August a notice to proceed to Joe Bland Construction for infrastructure improvements as the city and developers continue work on The Square at Lakeway.

The details: The contractor started grading work for the new Main Street, which will connect Ranch Road 620 to Lohmans Crossing Road, while trenching for the underground election and gas infrastructure is also underway.

However, the project has experienced delays building a new wastewater lift station to service the mixed-use development.

Ben Gonzalez, development project manager with Legend Communities, told City Council at an August meeting that the project is still needing permit approval from Travis County Water Control and Improvement District 17. He said the water and wastewater utilities are expected to be installed this September, which would put the project on track to finish work on Main Street by the first quarter of 2027.

Eanes ISD adopts tax rate, postpones staff compensation vote 
Eanes ISD residents can expect to see a slightly lower tax rate in 2026-27 following the board of trustees' adoption of the rate during its Aug. 18 meeting, while an employee compensation plan is still to be determined. The approved tax rate of $0.8254 per $100 of valuation includes $0.7054 for maintenance and operations and $0.12. for interest and sinking.

Lake Travis ISD board of trustees adopts lowest tax rate in district history
Homeowners in Lake Travis ISD may still see higher tax bills despite the board of trustees adopting a lower rate at an Aug. 19 meeting. The LTISD board of trustees adopted a rate of $1.0329 per $100 of valuation, a slight decrease from the previous rate of $1.0397.

Democratic candidate Pooja Sethi and Republican candidate Jennifer Mushtaler will face off in the Nov. 3 election for Texas House District 47. 

Texas House District 47 spans parts of northwest, west and southwest Austin. Democratic incumbent Vikki Goodwin did not seek reelection.

Voter deadline registration is Oct. 5. Early voting will be held Oct. 19-30, and election day is Nov. 3.

Two candidates will face off for Texas House District 19 Nov. 3.

What to know: Incumbent Ellen Troxclair, R-Lakeway, is running for her third term against Democratic opponent Tom Luck. Texas House District 19 covers all of Blanco, Burnet, Gillespie and Kendall counties. The district also includes parts of Travis County, including Cedar Park, Leander and Bee Cave, along with other cities in Travis County.

The details: The last day to register to vote for the November 2026 elections is Oct. 5. Early voting will begin later that month on Oct. 19.
