After hosting many sporting events and the largest gun show in Texas this summer, the city of Bryan reported the Legends Event Center brought in $18.2 million in tourism revenue.

The gist: From May to August, the center hosted tentpole events such as the:

• Adidas 3SSB Boys Basketball Tournament

• NXTPRO Puma PRO16 National Finals

• Under Armour Futures Basketball

• The Largest Gun Show in Texas

• Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Girls’ Basketball Showcase

According to a news release, Executive Director of Destination Bryan John Friebele said these events brought thousands of visitors, along with generating money for hotels, restaurants and gas stations.

Bryan Mayor Bobby Gutierrez said the center is a huge asset for the city and does a lot for the growth of sports tourism.

The takeaway: Without the tourism the center draws, the city said the average household would have to spend an extra $5,600 to keep the economy going at its current pace. The center is also estimated to generate an additional $1.8 million from events taking place during the next six weeks.

College Station ISD trustees will consider a cybersecurity services agreement with the Texas A&M University System and additional employee stipends during their Aug. 25 meeting.

The big picture: The board will consider a one-year interlocal agreement with the Texas A&M University System for cybersecurity services at an estimated annual cost of $178,398. The agreement would provide CSISD with 24/7 monitoring, threat analysis, incident response and containment, threat assessments and education-specific threat intelligence among other protective measures.

Trustees also will consider two additional stipends for the 2026-27 school year: $750 for an elementary P.E. lead assignment and $1,500 for asbestos management responsibilities. The district said the asbestos stipend recognizes specialized training and additional duties associated with the assignment.

Get involved: College Station ISD trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 in the CSISD Board Room, 1812 Welsh Ave., College Station.

Bryan coffee shop House of Rain has expanded with a second location, now available in Historic Downtown Bryan.

What House of Rain offers: The coffee shop sells handcrafted drinks, including hot and iced coffee, matcha and lattes. Pastries such as muffins and croissants are also available, along with a comfy seating area in the new location.

How it happened: After being in business for more than a year in its first location, Gonzalez said the opening of the downtown location is great for convenience for the working professionals in the area.

“Downtown Bryan is a very busy place and we love to hang out here,” Gonzalez said. "People had been asking us a lot for something else. I feel grateful that we feel welcome in downtown.”

Owners Emanuel Gonzalez and Lorraine Ramos said the business ultimately expanded because of the need for more space and to add more menu offerings.

Incumbent state Sen. Charles Schwertner, R- Georgetown, will face Democratic challenger Paul Thomasson in the race to represent District 5 in the Texas Senate.
District 5 includes Brazos County.

What to bring to the polls: Voters should bring a photo ID with them to the polls. According to the Texas Secretary of State's office, acceptable forms of photo ID include:

• Texas driver's license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)

• Texas election identification certificate issued by DPS

• Texas personal identification card issued by DPS

• Texas handgun license issued by DPS

• U.S. Military identification card containing the person’s photograph

• U.S. citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph

• U.S. passport (book or card)

The last day to register to vote is Oct. 5, and early voting begins Oct. 19.
