Pflugerville ISD to consider updated elementary rezoning map

Pflugerville ISD families are one step closer to knowing the district's new elementary attendance zones, a change necessitated by the closure of four elementary campuses at the end of the school year.

The district's Rezoning Task Force voted to recommend Map 10 to the board of trustees during its Oct. 20 meeting.

How we got here: At the Sept. 22 task force meeting, Map 5 and Map 9 received the most task force votes. A public hearing and ThoughtExchange survey were then launched to gather community feedback on the maps.

What changed?

The new Map 10 recommendation implements a few changes, including:

  • Dessau receiving campuses: Wieland and Delco

  • Parmer Lane receiving campuses: Northwest, River Oaks and Copperfield

  • Pflugerville receiving campuses: Timmerman and Wieland

  • Windermere receiving campuses: Caldwell, Timmerman, Highland Park and Brookhollow

Additionally, this task force will not rezone schools east of the SH 130.

Looking ahead: The board of trustees is slated to have a first reading on the Map 10 recommendation at its Nov. 2 board workshop meeting.

Report highlights healthcare workforce needs in Williamson County

A recent study of the local healthcare workforce found Williamson County has a shortage of imaging technicians, medical records specialists, nurses and physical therapists.

The overview: Laura Rosen, healthcare sector partnership manager for Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area, presented some findings of the Central Texas-based report at a State of Healthcare Luncheon hosted by the Round Rock Chamber Oct. 28.

Diving in deeper: One of the largest areas of shortage, she said, is nursing, with hundreds of openings reported in Williamson County.

"Nurses are really the heart of our healthcare system," Rosen said.

The takeaway: As the greater Austin area continues to grow, local workforce entities are trying to gauge what support is needed to bridge gaps between existing talent and future needs.

Election News
Planning to vote in Texas on Tuesday, Nov. 3? Here's what to know before heading to the polls.

Texans' last chance to vote in this year's midterm election is Nov. 3. Polling places across the state will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Election Day, according to the secretary of state's office.

What to expect: Dozens of races will appear on the ballot, from U.S. Senate and governor to local officials and propositions.

If a voter runs into an issue at the polls that cannot be immediately resolved, such as a lack of photo ID or an administrative error, they have the right to cast a provisional ballot, per state law. Some voters may be required to return to the local voter registrar's office by Nov. 9—six days after Election Day—to resolve the issue after voting.

Stay informed: Visit communityimpact.com/voter-guide to read Q&As with hundreds of candidates, find coverage of local propositions and print a custom sample ballot to bring to the polls.

After polls close at 7 p.m. Nov. 3, election results will be posted on the same webpage.
