The Cedar Park Community Development Type B Board approved a total of just over $5.6 million in funding for several transportation and community projects at its July 14 meeting.

A closer look: The Community Development Type B Board, which allocates sales tax funds to community development projects, approved six projects for inclusion in the board’s budget.

What else? The Type B Board also approved its budget for fiscal year 2026-27.

The city expects the Type B board to receive about $13.2 million in sales tax revenue for FY 2026-27, up from a projected $12.6 million in FY 2025-26, Director of Finance Erica Solis said at the July 14 meeting.

What’s next: The Type B board budget is a part of the larger city of Cedar Park budget, which requires final approval from the City Council.

City Council members are set to hold a public hearing on the overall budget Sept. 3 and take a final vote Sept. 10, Solis said.

A Chewy Vet Care clinic is coming to Cedar Park, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The details: The clinic will be located in an existing building along Arrow Point Drive off of Whitestone Boulevard, the filing states. Renovations to prepare the space for use as a veterinary clinic are expected to begin in December and wrap up in April.

Chewy, an online pet supply retailer, expanded its business by opening its first Chewy Vet Care locations in 2024, a news release states. The clinics offer routine medical appointments and urgent care for cats and dogs. The first Central Texas Chewy Vet Care clinic opened last year on Guadalupe Street in Austin.

Some Austin residents and elected officials are calling for new community-driven accountability and transparency standards in the city's growing adoption of artificial intelligence.

The details: Austin leaders have already pressed for oversight of city government's use of AI as the technology became more widely used. Some of that work stemmed from a 2024 resolution asking to convene a community AI advisory committee to consider issues related to privacy and data security, system transparency and reliability, public information and harm reduction. City Council also moved to establish AI ethics standards and an annual auditing program.

After a recent public feedback period, hundreds of Austinites provided feedback on the city's adoption of AI and related policies. Recommendations forwarded to city leaders this summer centered around transparency, privacy protections, public participation, human oversight, environmental justice, and equitable education about the technology.

The interior renovation of IBC Bank in Austin, a Walmart renovation in Round Rock and a new 7 Brew in Leander are among the five most expensive projects filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in the Austin metro this week.

1. IBC Bank Plaza interior renovations ($6 million): This project involves the partial interior finish-out of four levels in the building, including renovations of shared core spaces, elevator lobbies and common corridors on floors 6-13.

2. Pease Community Campus Phase 1 ($2.1 million): Pease Elementary School in downtown Austin is being transformed into the Pease Community Campus.

3. Walmart renovation ($1.3 million): This project includes an interior and exterior remodel of an existing Walmart in Round Rock.

4. Tim Hortons ($750,000): This project involves the renovation of an existing 3,107 square foot space to a Tim Hortons.

5. 7 Brew ($400,000): A new 7 Brew location is coming to Leander. The drive-thru coffee shop will be 510 square feet, with construction set to wrap up this fall.
