PREVIEW: College Station ISD board to consider bus safety costs using 2023 bond funds

College Station ISD’s board of trustees will discuss several major funding and safety items at its March 17 meeting, including the estimated cost of adding seat belts to school buses and purchases tied to the district’s 2023 bond.

What you need to know: According to the meeting agenda, trustees are expected to consider a number of notable items, including school bus safety upgrades, classroom furniture and new staff positions.

Also on the agenda: During the 5 p.m. meeting, trustees will hold a workshop focused on:

  • An update from the district’s Teaching and Learning Department
  • A revised timeline for recommendations from the district’s Budget Advisory Committee

Stay tuned: The meeting will take place at the district’s main office, 1812 Welsh Ave., College Station, in the CSISD Board Room.

College Station winery to relocate to Virginia

After opening up shop in the early 2010s, Perrine Winery in College Station  it's set to close its Texas location at the end of July and move upstream to the state of Virginia.

What you need to know: According to Perrine Winery's website, the owners believe it's time to "pass the torch" onto the next generation. Their daughter, who lives in Virginia, is taking over.

What they offer: Since 2011, the Perrines have been making their own wines and wine drinks. They offer by-the-bottle or by-the-glass with your traditional varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio. They also offer tasty snacks to go with your wine of choice.

Quote of note: "We started this from scratch. ... It's kind of mixed emotions, sad about [closing in College Station]. We've met a lot of people who've come through here, they've been great people. Some have become lifelong friends," she said. "But, it's time. We have a motorhome we have hardly ever used. ... We're looking forward to that."

The full story: Overall, fewer homes were sold in the area in February compared to the same month last year. Just one ZIP code saw an increase.


Diving in deeper: Meanwhile, the median home sale price increased in most ZIP codes, with two seeing a decrease. The largest change was in the 77801 ZIP code, which saw a nearly 127% increase.

What else: The median number of days a home sat on the market fluctuated between ZIP codes. Half of all markets declined in the number of days.

Also of note: Data for the 77809 ZIP code was not made available.
