Two current City Council members will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot for Pflugerville City Council, Place 2.

The big picture: Ceasar Ruiz and David Rogers both currently serve on City Council, with Ruiz holding the Place 2 seat and Rogers holding the Place 6 seat.

Pflugerville City Council members are elected at-large, which means each member represents the entire city, and residents can vote for all positions.

The specifics: Candidates were asked to keep responses to 50 words or fewer, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents. Answers may have been edited or cut to adhere to those guidelines or for style and clarity.

Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.

Pfun Arts is expanding beyond its workshop offerings by launching a space designed to cultivate local talent, foster community connection and elevate visual arts in the area.

A closer look: The refreshed Pfun Arts space features four hubs within the facility: a fine art gallery and exhibition space with rotating exhibits, an open studio and creative workspace, art education and specialty workshop areas, and artisan retail shop and boutique, which is coming soon.

Quote of note: "Our goal with the re-imagined Pfun Arts is to build a true home for creativity in Pflugerville—a place where community members can learn, artists can show and sell their work, and neighbors can gather," Pfun Arts Gallery Director Candace Pruett said in a press release.

The details: To celebrate the expansion, the visual arts center is hosting a grand reopening celebration Oct. 24. The event will include live musical performances, a live art demonstration and complimentary refreshments.

Firefly Aerospace opened a new facility for spacecraft production this month, significantly expanding its ability to produce moon landers and orbital vehicles. Local and state government officials, as well as representatives from NASA and the Texas Space Commission, joined the company Sept. 22 to celebrate the opening of its new cleanroom at its Cedar Park headquarters.

What’s new: The new cleanroom is four times the size of Firefly’s existing cleanroom, a company representative said. Using both cleanrooms, Firefly will be able to produce up to 12 lunar landers and orbital vehicles simultaneously, Vice President of Spacecraft Ray Allensworth said.

The new cleanroom was funded in part by an $8.2 million grant from the Texas Space Commission and a $1 million grant from the city of Cedar Park. Texas Space Commission Executive Director Norm Garza said Firefly’s project was one of the first to receive funding from the state commission and be completed.

Quote of note: “It's really meaningful to have this level of support from the city and from the state. I think it really shows how invested they are and how they really see the value of companies like Firefly growing in Central Texas. I think it's really important to not just add companies like Firefly in Central Texas, but keep growing them and build a foundation,” Allensworth said.

Additions to Leander High School, a new H-E-B in Buda and an apartment in Austin are among the five most expensive projects filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in the metro this week.

1. Leander ISD high school modernization ($68 million): This project involves building additions and renovations at Leander High School.

2. H-E-B ($61.2 million): A new H-E-B grocery store is coming to Buda, with construction set to begin next spring.

3. The Ridge Apartments ($11.8 million): This project involves the construction of a four-story multifamily building

4. Residence Inn ($11 million): The hotel brand is coming to Hutto, with construction set to begin in December.

5. Texas State University pitching lab and batting cages ($4 million): This project includes an addition to the existing softball pitching facility and a new pre-engineered metal building to house baseball's pitching and hitting facility.

Heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding will threaten large parts of Texas this week, Gov. Greg Abbott told reporters Sept. 28.

The overview: The governor pointed to severe flooding that occurred in South-Central Texas in mid-July, damaging property, sweeping cars off roadways and killing two people. This week's storms will impact "a far more vast portion of the state" than the July flooding, he warned.

The details: Abbott said heavy rains will "really dramatically affect" the majority of the state on Sept. 30, and the National Weather Service noted that "North-Central Texas is a particular concern."

"We don't have the information needed right now to advise Texans on exactly what's going to happen in our rivers," Abbott told reporters. "I can tell you this, however: Everyone should expect the rivers to rise."
