New Braunfels approves ordinance change that helps protects endangered species habitat

New Braunfels City Council approved an ordinance change prohibiting public entry to the Comal River Old Channel from city-owned property on second and final reading April 13.

In case you missed it: The Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan requires the city to prohibit river access along the protected Comal River Old Channel. The previous ordinance only prohibited entrance to the Old Channel from the Landa Park Golf Course and did not cover access from Landa Park, Hinman Island Park or Prince Solms Park, according to agenda documents.

A lack of ordinance coverage at this location was recently discovered following the recent increase of people entering the Old Channel from Hinman Island Park and Prince Solms Park. The ordinance change will help protect the fountain darter habitat, according to the ordinance text.

One more thing: The spring fed pool is not impacted by this ordinance change, because it is not considered the Old Channel of the Comal, according to agenda documents.

Tabletop gaming club to offer brews and bites in New Braunfels

A new place for gaming and building community is opening in New Braunfels soon.

What you need to know: The Board Game Vault is anticipated to open in Freiheit Village at the end of April.

The business is owned by local Alesha Cribb, who was inspired to open The Board Game Vault after her son grew interested in playing Dungeons and Dragons. Cribb and her family moved to the area three years ago from North Texas—a place where there were not a lot of youth groups in the area, she said.

The Board Game Vault will have over 250 games, such as Warhammer and Dungeons and Dragons, along with American fare and spirits. The business will also have two private spaces patrons can reserve for a few hours to play games.

Key Information
San Antonio Board of Realtors and Four Rivers Association of Realtors look to merge

The San Antonio Board of Realtors and Four Rivers Association of Realtors announced in an April 14 news release that they formally approved and signed a strategic merger agreement.

What it means: The organizations are looking to amplify advocacy efforts at a local and state level, expand education and professional development opportunities and increase networking and regional collaboration. The merger would expand the association’s coverage across a larger geographic area and create new opportunities to enhance member services, the release states.

Next steps: The proposed merger is pending approval by both organizations. Once details related to governance structure, operational planning and finances are finalized, a general membership meeting will be held with members of SABOR and Four Rivers AOR. Then, those members will have the opportunity to vote on the proposed merger, the release states. If approved, the National Association of Realtors will need to ratify the merger agreement for the merger to become official.
