Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD approves 2026-27 academic calendar

The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD academic calendar for the 2026-27 school year was unanimously approved by the district’s board of trustees on Dec. 18.

The details: The 2026-27 school year will run from Aug. 13, 2026-May 27, 2027, according to the approved calendar.

A total of 28 holidays are scheduled between August 2026 and May 2027, including Thanksgiving break from Nov. 23-27, 2027 and winter break from Dec. 21, 2026-Jan. 1, 2027. 

State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness testing will run from April 6-22.

Swig to open 5th area location near Live Oak soon

This nationwide chain of beverage shops is expanding in San Antonio with a new location on the city's northeast side.

What residents should know: Swig, a specialty soda shop, is opening a new location Dec. 29 7038 N. Loop 1604 E., next to the Slim Chickens restaurant, according to the shop's website. Swig is also planning to open another new location in North San Antonio at 3639 E. Evans Road, according to previous reporting from Community Impact.

What they offer: Swig serves dirty sodas, customizable mocktails and more. The beverage shop also sells specialty cookies.

Morgan's Wonderland to open first-ever accessible tower ride at theme park in 2026

This unique theme park in northeast San Antonio is continuing to expand in the city, this time adding a new ride for guests to enjoy in 2026.

In case you missed it: Morgan’s Wonderland officials announced the installation of a new, accessible tower ride at the theme park during the offseason in a Nov. 18 post explaining the ride.

The new ride is called WingZ, and it is “an innovative, broad demographic, interactive tower ride designed with accessibility at its heart. WingZ allows guests of all abilities to share the exhilarating sensation of soaring together,” the announcement states.

The timeline for the ride’s construction aligns with the park’s spring 2026 opening.
