Universal City approves development agreement for food truck park

Another food truck park is on the way to Universal City.

Universal City’s City Council approved a development for a mobile food unit park at 1980 Universal City Blvd. on Jan. 6. The development agreement was approved in a 4-2 vote, with Mayor Pro Tem Christina Fitzpatrick and Council member Bernard Rubal dissenting.

What you need to know: A mobile food unit park is defined as three or more food trucks located together on a parcel of private or city-owned land, according to agenda documents. City Council approved an ordinance in February 2021 allowing the establishment of the development type, according to agenda documents.

The development agreement is between the city and local park operator UC Texas LLC. The food park will include space for six food trucks and 18 parking spaces, including two accessible spaces. There will be an outdoor eating area in the center of the property with 10 tables, three bicycle racks and outdoor restrooms, agenda documents state.

A runoff election has officially been called in Schertz for the Place 7 seat on City Council.

What’s on the ballot: During the Dec. 20 special election for the Place 7 seat, John Carbon and Robert Sheridan received the most votes out of five candidates and will be on the runoff ballot. Local wine bar brings a taste of Europe to New Braunfels

After traveling to wineries across Portugal, Spain and the rest of Europe, Abigail Porter and Matt Bizer wanted to bring the same flavors and atmosphere back to Texas.

“We always thought New Braunfels needed something like they have over there,” Bizer said.

That’s why Bizer and Porter opened up Favorite Neighbor in July, a wine bar that offers not only tastings but also a sense of community and trying new things.

“We kind of did this on a whim,” Porter said. “But so far, it’s been pretty fun."

Located inside a converted gas station at 494 N. Union Ave., Porter said she wanted to capture a rustic, minimal feel for the bar prior to opening.

McAllister Park opens new mountain biking trail in North San Antonio

A new bike path has recently been added to the trail system at this popular park in North San Antonio.

What residents should know: A new mountain biking trail at McAllister Park called The Grove got its “finishing touches” on Dec. 14, according to a Facebook post from the Friends of McAllister Park, or FOMP.

Volunteers helped to construct portions of the trail, including planting vegetation, spreading mulch, laying down boulders and more.

FOMP is an independent, nonprofit organization that helps to fund and maintain projects at the park, according to its website.

The new trail is near the park’s multipurpose sports field, just outside the parking lot off Buckhorn Road.

More details: As a “flow” trail, The Grove contains a series of hills and is named after the native Texas Persimmon, common in the San Antonio area, according to an announcement from FOMP’s Facebook page.
