Check out some recent government updates coming out of Prosper and Celina, including Celina’s new downtown parking garage and Prosper’s new tollway funding district. This list is not comprehensive.

1. Downtown reimagined: Celina officials complete parking garage
Nearly 400 new parking spots are now open in Celina’s downtown, a move officials said will ease congestion and support the area’s growing number of businesses.

The overview: The 25,202-square-foot parking garage, which opened to the public in mid-October, is part of a larger $96 million effort to redevelop downtown, Mayor Ryan Tubbs said. The project also includes adding a new government center, called the Downtown Center, and expanded public library.

2. Prosper OKs $2M in funding for new inclusive playground
Prosper residents could see a new inclusive playground coming soon.

What you need to know: Prosper Town Council approved purchasing just over $2 million in playground equipment from Play and Park Structures at a Nov. 25 meeting. Assistant Town Manager Chuck Ewings said an exact location for the playground will be determined over the next 30-45 days.

Where to recycle live Christmas trees in Prosper

Prosper residents will have the opportunity to recycle their live Christmas trees for free.

The gist: Starting Dec. 26, Prosper residents will be able to recycle their live Christmas trees at Tucker Park. City officials ask residents to remove all lights, ornaments, decorations, tinsel, garland and other non-organic materials before dropping off the tree.

Check out these new restaurants and bars opening across the Dallas - Fort Worth area.

Pizza Twist opened Dec. 20 in Flower Mound and is serving specialty pizzas like butter chicken pizza, bombay barbecue pizza and Hawaiian pizza.

In addition to the variety of pizzas, the Indian fusion restaurant will offer pasta, breadsticks, chicken wings, salad, fries and paneer pakora, which is a bread served with Pizza Twist’s signature sauce.

Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi recently launched a soft opening Dec. 19 in Plano.

The restaurant offers hibachi and hot pot dining experiences as well as a variety of sushi options. Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi is a concept by Shogun Group which has multiple restaurants in the Houston area as well as Austin and San Marcos.

American Airlines announces new routes to Nebraska, Virginia from DFW Airport in 2026

American Airlines will launch two new routes from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport next summer.

According to a Dec. 18 news release, the Fort Worth-based airline will add two flights June 4.

What's happening? One will go to Lincoln, Nebraska, twice daily. Lincoln, home of the University of Nebraska, marks the 240th destination within the United States for American Airlines, according to the release.

The other flight will be to Roanoke, Virginia, which will happen once daily.
