Discovery School of Innovation, an accredited private school for students pre-K through eighth grade, opened a new campus for the 2026-27 school year, according to a news release. The 6-acre campus features dedicated spaces for arts, sciences and athletics.

Quote of note: “We are proud to serve The Woodlands community, and this campus represents our continued commitment to the families of this region,” said Catherine Sagar, director of Discovery School of Innovation. “The facility was designed around our educational philosophy, in which the learning environment itself plays an active role in each child’s development.”

What’s next: Discovery School of Innovation says the expansion has opened the door for expanding to higher grades, with plans to offer a pre-K-12 pathway by August 2027.

Southern Oak Brewing is a local taphouse and restaurant that is set to open its doors this October in Tomball.

Two-minute impact: The brewery itself has 28 taps and operates as a full-service restaurant. Kendra Schwaiger is one of the co-founders of Southern Oak Brewing alongside her husband Josh; she is also one of the owners of Paradigm Brewery in Tomball. 

Schwaiger said that her main reason for opening another brewery location in Tomball is because they love the locals of Tomball Main Street.

The brewery is entering its last stage of preparation before its official opening in early October.

On Sept. 3, Lone Star College System’s board of trustees voted to cancel the November trustee election after no new candidates filed to challenge the three incumbents.

In a nutshell: LSCS trustees for Districts 3, 4 and 9 were scheduled to be up for election Nov. 3, as previously reported by Community Impact. These trustee spots are held by:

• Board Secretary Iesheia Wilson for District 3
• Art Murillo for District 4
• Jim Cain for District 9

Aug. 17 was the last day for candidates to file to run for election in November, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

Three candidates are running to lead the Texas Department of Agriculture in the Nov. 3 election.

The details: Libertarian Austin R. Kelly, Republican Nate Sheets and Democrat Clayton Tucker are vying to become Texas' next commissioner of agriculture. The commissioner's duties include regulating agriculture, administering nutrition programs and providing rural economic development assistance.

How we got here: There is no incumbent in this race after Sheets beat sitting Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller in the March Republican primary. Tucker ran uncontested in the March Democratic primary, while Kelly was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

The winner of the November midterm will be sworn in to succeed Miller in January.

Looking ahead: Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30 in the midterm election, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
