Sylver Spoon Dinner Theater shuts down after 8 years in New Braunfels

An event and dining venue has announced its closure in New Braunfels after nearly a decade in the community.

What’s happening: The Sylver Spoon Dinner Theater officially closed its doors at 6700 N. I-35 on Aug. 28, according to a Facebook post. The venue, located next to Texas Ski Ranch, opened in 2017 and is owned by sisters Tori, Madison and Sylver Monaco.

The Monaco sisters said all events and gift cards for the theater will be honored through the remainder of September at their other event venue, The Abbott House, located at 907 N. Austin St. in Seguin.

Zooming in: Sylver Spoon Dinner Theater actors and chefs served full, three-course meals to go along with interactive murder mystery events.

“While this chapter closes, our story continues at The Abbott House in Seguin,” the Monacos said in the Facebook post.

Events like Date Night Comedy and Music Bingo will continue at the Abbott House.

Eberhard Lumber to close after over 70 years in New Braunfels

A locally-owned hardware store and lumber yard is planning to close its doors after seven decades of serving the New Braunfels area.

What’s happening: Eberhard Lumber—owned by husband and wife duo Diana and Dennis Eberhard—announced on Facebook that they were planning to close for retirement by the end of the year.

“It’s just time to retire,” Diana Eberhard told Community Impact. “We’ve made so many friends and seen so much change here.”

The history: Eberhard said the hardware store first opened in 1953 and still sits at its original location at 1445 McQueeney Road in New Braunfels. Originally run by her husband’s parents, Eberhard said it was handed off to them 1993.

More details: Eberhard Lumber served as a locally-sourced lumber yard and sold doors, frames, hardware products and foundation materials. The store also offered key duplication, special orders, tool sharpening and more.

Crust Pizza Co. now serving Chicago-style pizza in Cibolo

A statewide pizza franchise has expanded to Northeast San Antonio.

What you need to know: On Sept. 3, Crust Pizza Co. opened at 813 Cibolo Valley Drive, Ste. 170. The franchise is operated by franchisees Derek Campbell, Nathan Howe Robbins and Jay Tompkins.

What they offer: Crust Pizza Co. serves Chicago-style pizza along with pastas, salads and flatbread sandwiches.

The Shops at La Cantera to celebrate 20 years in the San Antonio market

A popular shopping, dining and entertainment district in northwest San Antonio is recognizing 20 years since its inception this September.

The history: The Shops at La Cantera first opened to the public in September 2005, according to a news release from the shopping destination.

As September approaches, the shops announced a 20th anniversary celebration in a news release.

The pet-friendly outdoor shopping center has several storefronts, including a Lego store, luxury stores like Chanel and Dion, an Apple store and more.

They also host a variety of community events and concerts throughout the year to celebrate San Antonio culture and diversity, according to the news release.

What’s happening: There will be a series of free community events held at the shops to commemorate the anniversary.

Thompson Safety acquires A1 Shiner, expands fire protection services to San Antonio

Thompson Safety, a provider of fire protection, first aid and safety services, acquired A1 Shiner, a Texas-based fire protection company with locations across Texas on August 13.

The details: According to a news release, the acquisition expands Thompson Safety’s footprint in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, providing a one-stop shop for workplace safety.

Thompson Safety offers a wide variety of safety equipment and services, including first aid supplies, personal protective equipment, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, fire alarms, fire hoses and emergency and exit lighting.

The acquisition has added several new fire services, such as fire suppression and fire alarms, according to a news release. It also gives Thompson Safety’s current first aid and safety customers access to more fire protection solutions, while A1 Shiner customers will gain access to Thompson’s first aid and safety services.
